Publisher's summary

Sandy Bottom Bay, Florida - Come for the Haunts, Stay for the Beaches!

Drew Drummond might call himself a psychic tarot reader, but he doesn’t believe in the supernatural. The business was left to him by his grandmother, and seemed the best way to rise above the chronic criminal behavior of the Drummond family. Despite his efforts, few of the townspeople consider him a good romantic match. Being gay only makes finding love more difficult.

When Cliff Garcia, Drew’s crush from his teenage years, moves back to town and joins the police force, Drew doesn’t think he has a chance. After all, the skeptical cop considers Drew’s profession on par with professional con men, and Cliff had spent his entire school career feuding with Drew’s volatile brothers. Despite the obstacles, Drew and Cliff begin a fiery relationship.

Just when Drew starts to believe they might have a chance, he suffers a head injury and begins having visions of the future. If Drew tells Cliff the truth, he’ll lose the man he’s falling for, but keeping his new ability a secret is no longer an option. If he can’t convince Cliff he’s for real, a murderer will walk free.

It's In the Cards

I love the way these two men just get put together. There are so many elements in this story with Drew and Cliff’s history in Sandy Bottom. Cliff really has to learn to trust what is happening around him and not let past feelings cloud his judgement. The whole set of characters in this story add to the fun and richness of the story. I listened to the audio version and enjoyed it. #CMCon24

Pretty Good

I liked this story. It was a good listen. I enjoyed the characters in the story and how they interacted. The protagonists, Drew and Cliff, were too much in their heads, which was annoying at times. Had they never heard the adage, ASSUME. Though I hoped for a HEA for the pair, I wanted to smack Cliff upside the head on numerous occasions. Though in hindsight, that may have been the intent of the author. The story was pretty good but I would like to have had a bit more paranormal activity. The ending, though sweet, downplayed the paranormal part of the story, which was a bit disappointing. Either way...an enjoyable story.

Waiting for the next one

Well thought out. Best story I’ve heard in a while. I kind of had a problem with the character Cliff. He was judgmental, and self satisfied. Mr. moral compass, broke more rules then anyone and still continuously trash talks his boyfriends family for doing things they either did for their brother, or did accidentally. I hoped to see more character development especially in the twins characters.

Grown Hardy Boys meet Gay Harlequin Romance

The telling is pretty simplistic but the characters feel genuine and the story is delightful. It’s an easy read and an extremely entertaining page-turner. The narration is excellent, with clear distinctions between characters and flowing, realistic dialogue. Like an aperitif if you have been feasting on a heavy literary diet, it is fun, surprising and laced with titillating scenes. Kudos to KC Burn and Darcy Stark. They make a grand team.

I had a blast!

Psychics is a bit like brain candy for me. I love a good mystery where a psychic is involved trying to solve a crime that's been committed - or prevent one from happening. So when I noticed this book being released I just had to listen to it right away.

Drew Drummond is psychic. Okay, so he's not really psychic, but he did inherit a psychic gift shop from his beloved grandmother. A grandmother who also did tarot readings for those who wanted one. In order to make ends (barely) meet he's reluctantly taken up his grandmother's turban and gives readings to tourists and the locals in the town. Even though he might just be the biggest sceptic in town.

Cliff Garcia recently returned back to his hometown. Wanting to start over and escape his ex and their messy breakup and his best friend dying, he jumped at a chance when he was offered a position at the police department in Sandy Bottom Bay in Florida. He is less than thrilled when his first assignment is to babysit a celebrity who's come to town to make a TV show. A celebrity who happens to be his cheating ex-boyfriend. To say that he was pissed off is putting it mildly. And starting a relationship with Drew Drummond is not in his agenda. I mean everyone in town knows that the entire Drummond family is nothing but crooks that sooner or later ends up in jail. Now if only his heart would get on that program...

North on Drummond was a slow paced book, mainly dealing with everyday stuff, like Cliff dealing with moving back to his hometown filled with childhood memories, friends and old foes. It doesn't take long for old grudges between him and the Drummond twins to ignite add in his trouble making ex and things are bound to get explode. Only when it does, it's Drew that gets in the way and ends up in hospital with a head injury... and what seems to be real psychic powers. He's getting visions of things to come and things happened in the past - namely a murder not that long ago. Now he just have to get people to believe him before it's too late.

I like this book well enough. At times it was a bit too slow paced for me, we'd gone though a good chunk of the book before something really started happening and the paranormal aspect was in play. I liked Drew and Cliff together as such, they fit well as a couple even if they both were a bit reluctant at times. I really liked some of the secondary characters, in particular Drew's best friend Kyle. They added another layer to the story and made it more enjoyable to read.

I've listened to many new to me narrators and Darcy Stark is one of them. I liked his narration if the book, it wasn't flawless by any means and I would have liked a bit more feelings to the words to truly draw me in. That being said, Stark has a nice voice to listen to and I will happily listen to him some more in the future.

North on Drummondwas a low-angst and straight forward book. It's uncomplicated and is just the right kind of read when you're not looking for something heavy. Recommended.
