Publisher's summary

For 18 years, Jude Farraday has put her children’s needs above her own, and it shows - her twins, Mia and Zach, are bright and happy teenagers. When Lexi Baill moves into their small, close-knit community, no one is more welcoming than Jude. Lexi, a former foster child with a dark past, quickly becomes Mia’s best friend. Then Zach falls in love with Lexi and the three become inseparable.

Jude does everything to keep her kids on track for college and out of harm’s way. It has always been easy - until senior year of high school. Suddenly she is at a loss. Nothing feels safe anymore; every time Mia and Zach leave the house, she worries about them. On a hot summer’s night her worst fears are realized. One decision will change the course of their lives. In the blink of an eye, the Farraday family will be torn apart and Lexi will lose everything. In the years that follow, each must face the consequences of that single night and find a way to forget... or the courage to forgive.Vivid, universal, and emotionally complex, Night Road raises profound questions about motherhood, identity, love, and forgiveness. It is a luminous, heartbreaking novel that captures both the exquisite pain of loss and the stunning power of hope. This is Kristin Hannah at her very best, telling an unforgettable story about the longing for family, the resilience of the human heart, and the courage it takes to forgive the people we love.

This is a must read but bring tissues.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I highly recommend this book and have spoken to most of my friends about it already. This book had me so engrossed in the story that I broke into tears on a few different occasions. At one point, my husband had called and I was so caught up in the book that I was crying to him about a chapter. That has never happened before. Kristin Hannah never disappoints but she outdid herself with this one.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Night Road?

When one of the characters was giving birth I cried for her. I held my breathe as I listened to the details. My heart ached for her. I don't remember ever being so emotionally involved with a book.

What does Kathleen McInerney bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She has a great voice and it took me right into the story.

If you could take any character from Night Road out to dinner, who would it be and why?

I don't know the answer to that.

Any additional comments?

It was a beautiful book that exposed you to so many raw emotions. As sad as it was, I loved reading it. I went through the emotions with the characters and so few books do that for the reader.

Great story, try and get past Mia's voice.....

I almost quit this book but I'm glad I didn't! The story is excellent. Kristin Hannah is an amazing writer. The narrator was good except for.....MIA! I understand that she needed to sound incredibly innocent but she was 18 years old. Not 11. It was cringe worthy at more than one point.

Not her best

I’m usually a huge fan of Kristin’s work but this wasn’t my favorite. The story was about dull and predictable, nothing about it really shocked me or kept me on the edge of my seat waiting, I would have been okay not listening to this one. I actually almost stopped listening for the narrator alone, between the high pitched child-like voice she does for some characters to the constant melancholic voice for the main character it was almost unbearable. Save your time and money from this book, she has other books that are worth it.

Another Kristin Hannah Winner

I would imagine this story would be a tough read for parents, but if they don't internalize the story, it's really a great read that all Kristin Hannah fans shouldn't miss. There's something special about her books. They draw me in right away, drop me into her settings, and make me feel intimately connected with the characters. This one is no different. I have lost hours of sleep because I didn't want to stop listening. So far, here are my favorite KH books ranked: The Nightingale > Great Alone > Night Road < Four Winds.

A story of true grief and love.

A story of true grief and love. At times it hard to listen without feeling the heartbreak of each character. This story is beautiful told and depicts real life, it shows that even in the ambers of tragedy the beauty in life can be found.

Wait for it.

It took me a while to get into this book. I really disliked Mia— super anxious attachment and she felt two dimensional. Once the book reached its climax, we really get to see the characters develop. They felt more full and robust. I liked that while the characters experienced tragedy, they had to look within and confront their own selves in order to heal and forgive one another.

Best I've read in quite some time!!!

Absolutely fell in love with this book. I have not read one like it in quite sometime. The audible performance was amazing. I am reading another of Kristen Hannah right now and the speaker reading it is just not as good as this one. I find myself losing track because of the monotone sound of the reader. I am sure the book will be just as good. Have found me a new favorite author for sure. Don't miss this one... made my feelers really come alive.
