Publisher's summary

Nefertiti and her younger sister, Mutnodjmet, have been raised in a powerful family that has provided wives to the rulers of Egypt for centuries. Ambitious, charismatic, and beautiful, Nefertiti is destined to marry Amunhotep, an unstable young pharaoh. It is hoped by all that her strong personality will temper the young Amunhotep's heretical desires.

From the moment of her arrival in Thebes, Nefertiti is beloved by the people. But as she turns her attention to producing a son, she fails to see those plotting against her husband's rule. The only person wise enough to recognize the shift in political winds is Mutnodjmet. Observant and contemplative, Mutnodjmet has never shared her sister's desire for power. Her greatest hope is to share her life with the general who has won her heart. But as Nefertiti learns of the precariousness of her reign, she declares that her sister must remain at court and marry for political gain, not love. To achieve her independence, Mutnodjmet must defy her sister while also remaining loyal to her family.

Love, betrayal, political unrest, plague, and religious conflict: Nefertiti brings ancient Egypt to life in vivid detail. Fast-paced and historically accurate, it is the dramatic story of two unforgettable women living through a remarkable period in history.

Critic reviews

"Beautifully written and completely engrossing." ( Library Journal)
" Nefertiti is a fascinating window into the past, a heroic story with a very human heart. Compulsively readable!" (Diana Gabaldon)
"Though sometimes big events are telegraphed, Moran...gets the details just right, and there are still plenty of surprises in an epic that brings an ancient world to life." ( Publishers Weekly)

Egypt Come Alive

I am drawn to books about Egypt but they must be well written and follow history to a large degree. Not since Wilbur Smith have I enjoyed a book regarding Egypt so much. She made the daily life of the Royals come alive. It was awe inspiring.

Learn history through a wonderful story!

I really enjoyed this book. The plot was captivating in the same way that a reality show is, but beautifully written and read. The events that occur keep you wanting to find out more. I watched some documentaries on Nefertiti toward the end of the book, and the book was spot on! It was nice to realize that I knew the names of the people and cities that were talked about. Overall, I totally recommend it!

Outstanding

Excellent story, narration & presentation.
A rare gem. Ms. Campbell covered the characters range of emotions with true talent. The story was unwound with ample cultural detail to be interesting and insightful of life 3,300 years ago.

A fun and educational read

The author fills in historical unknowns with a liberal amount of fiction and I loved it. I learned a lot about the Egyptian lifestyle.

Entertaining with vivid descriptions

I really enjoyed this book. I could have gone for more character development and would loved for some of the story to be told from Nefertiti’s perspective.

Excellent Listen

Excellent writing, excellent reading. I have just returned from a trip to Egypt, which I loved, so I was thrilled to find this audiobook. I thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end and thought the reader did a great job portraying all of the characters. I highly recommend it.

Lacks Egyptian feel

I really wanted to like this book. Some of the characters were interesting and complex. The day to day life of royal Egyptians was interesting. This book though did not take me to Egypt. I feel like this has a lot to do with the narrator. I enjoy her voice and have listened to other books read by her. But because she has such an American accent that all I could feel. The story is told from first person point of view which did not lend well to this narrator. It was very disappointing.

The story it self was alright. The whole book just felt like I was listening to two very entitled teenagers being nightmares to everyone around them. It was difficult to get through at several points. I suppose this could have been how they actually were in real life, but the book did nothing for my love of Egypt except discouraging me from buying another novel set in Egyptian times.

An excellent story

I loved that a lot of it is historically correct. I enjoyed the descriptions and the storyline. I also enjoyed the narrator.
