Publisher's summary

Jay Quinn's Lambda-nominated novels transcend the traditional gay novel, exploring universal issues of marriage, aging parents, addiction, and attraction, all while presenting unique characters and pause-register drama.

In Metes and Bounds, surf, sand, and sex meet in the macho world of construction workers. For narrator Matt, "the greatest comfort of surfing comes in the sureness and instinct." Matt is not just coming of age, he's coming out, and in the sun-bleached world of the North Carolina beaches his burgeoning sexuality can toss as many curves as a wave. Through his longings and self-discovery, Matt knows he cannot let others triumph over being the man he knows to be. As he says, "Being a surfer meant you got out, faced your own fears, and did it." So too does Matt, in this stirring, memorable novel.

Navigating Stormy Waters and Warm Sands of Life

I was searching for a beach read that had more substance than sex. Metes and Bounds balanced both nicely. Like any young boy, Matt navigates his life with self confidence, yet finds life isn't so easy when he encounters those who struggle with their own identities and the ways of the south. Moving out to the beach and living with Tiger becomes his true north. Tiger reluctantly shares the struggles of his past like morsels in hopes that what he experiences are to seen as growing pains and not permanent scar that could hinder Matt'slife path.
As Matt swims through stormy waters to find a safe haven simular to what Tiger and Mark have, he keeps the reader engaged, drawing the reader so that they experience every emotional and physical encounter. The novel is a keeper. It's relatable and believable, which is key to keeping the reader in wanting more...
