Publisher's summary

A brand new novella from USA Today best-selling author Jaye Wells.

Meridian Six remembers the days before the Troika enslaved humans. She also remembers her mother, a freedom fighter murdered in the final battle between humans and vampires. But it is her mother's final words that have haunted her: Red means life. In the years since her mother's death, she has been used as both a propaganda tool and a blood slave by the Troika.

She's withstood their indignities because the alternative meant bleeding out in a blood camp. But their abuses finally go too far, and she decides to run toward freedom and her mother's red light. On the other side of the light, she meets a band of human rebels who want to take their world back from the Troika. The vampires used her famous name to keep human slaves biddable, but now the rebels will use it inspire a revolution. For Meridian Six, freedom is a luxury paid for with blood.

Very well done interesting story

Being a Sci Fi Dystopian I knew this was going to be fun and I was right! This one is quite short but it delves right into the fight.

Right away I got a feel for Meridian Six. She seems so young but so filled with strength. Living in a vampire dystopian will either kill you or make you stronger! In her case she dealt with the nonsense only to be surrounded by more nonsense the minute she got away.

The rebels see her strength and want her to fight and half of the story is built upon their dislike of each other. There are not that many rebels though so I can feel her pain. She just escaped and now these crazies want her to go back in?!! This portion was both interesting and far fetched. Most rebel camps have to be though so I just went with it.

I liked the characters and the plot but there are so many questions. Since this is only just over 100 pages there are more questions than answers by the end.

The narration was absolutely fantastic. Nicky Phillips did a great job of narrating a young, strong, but still a bit scared girl who was in way over her head. She wants to run, to live, to have a family and it is easy to feel all of this with the narration. The audible was very easy to listen to and I am hoping the next book will be put on audible as well.

In short: Very well done. Interesting story with a lot going on.

What a great twist!

I loved this new world order that the Rebels fight to be free done the tyranny of evil vampires. It reminds me of a movie I saw with Ethan Hawke.
