Publisher's summary

When I walked out of his office after the hottest sex of my life, I thought I'd left Max Douglas behind me forever - along with my favorite argyle socks and my self-respect. The last thing I need is the too-serious, too-sexy former Marine living across the hall from me while he acts as a bodyguard for one of my students. Especially since he fired me from my job tutoring his brother...after we hooked up.

I shouldn't want him. I should despise him after the way he treated me. But he's exactly my type: older, experienced, in control...and it's obvious the lust is still mutual. While I may not be able to keep our relationship strictly professional, I'm determined to keep it purely physical. But when the stalker threats escalate, it looks like Max is going to be sticking around the school for a while - and the more I get to know him, the more I'm in danger of losing my heart.

Excellent, from start to finish...

I realized that I had this book since 2013 and that I had not listened to it. I have now completed all of the Men of Smithfield stories and let me just say that this one, Max and Finn, is my all time favorite. The story was smooth and flowed, with little not no hiccups. The connection between Finn and Max was intense and it remained throughout the book. The subplot was equally intriguing and left me guessing until the end...I realized who it was just as soon as Finn did. As usual, Shannon Gunn was fantastic and brought so much to the story. An excellent romance/mystery/day-to-day story and I certainly would and do recommend.

Very enjoyable

The mystery was well written and surprising, but realistic. I liked Tony and Mark (first book in series) more as a couple, but Max and Finn are hotter.
In my re-listen list.

Come and get some.

Now, I don't know L.B. personally, but anyone who can write such funny scenes, thoughts, and put us readers right smack into an emotional crisis of will, is A-OK with me.

SO, I don't want to give too much of the plot away, but I was sooo entranced with the initial smex scene between Max and Finn. First off, how brave was Finn to initiate the act? I have to hand it to him, I'm a book worm a lot of the time. And, I deal in numbers and sit in my office all day, and so I'm not the 'lose control' type. Ok, let me be honest, I'm a complete control freak, I know it, and now you do too... so getting back to Finn. The reason I applaud him is because smex is the best way to 'lose control', but in a 'good' way, you know? So kudos to him to take that step and not care how much he was perceived as a hoe. LOL.

I'm so comfortable with the submission aspect, so I loved Max's dirty talk. Phew! *wipes brow* and he can call me a "dirty bitch" annnnyyyytime he wants. :P
God, I'm sitting here reliving those scenes as I type this. I need a moment....

Ok, back. So, as I was saying. Finn, he's a freak. He enjoys pushing his boundaries, and that's an amazing way to get off. And what I also enjoyed was that in the same time it took for him to climax, he realizes that what he's just experienced with Max supercedes a quick fling. It's that realization that allows him to feel so hurt at Max's 'initial' rejection.

Anywhooooo, it's delightful to see them make their way back to each other. I loved Finn seeing warm, caring and emotional sides of Max, and finding himself floored by each discovery. Or how gentle and nurturing Max was with Finn, when his persona is so utterly male and marine.
I liked the tid-bit of S&M L.B. threw in there.

So yep, It was a good read. However, I like a bit more spice with my m/m, so I have to say that this Men of Smithfield book (#3) wasn't up to par with others. If you're just starting out with this series, I suggest you begin with #2- Happy Ending- Seth and David. SOOOOO good. And so worth it. I kept right on reading till there was nothing left. Gobbled it up in one sitting.

Happy Reading Y'all!

Shannon Gunn nailed this narration!

I LOVED the audiobook narration by Shannon Gunn in this one—superb! The book I liked, but it didn’t wow me. And to be honest, things got a little crazy there at the end on the boarding school grounds.

It took me awhile to warm up to both MCs, Max specifically. He’s an ex Marine now running a security firm. Finn, the other MC calls him robocop. And that’s what’s he seems to be for most of the book.

Finn is a theatre and creative writing teacher at a prestigious prep school in Connecticut. Max thinks him lax.

I didn’t feel chemistry between them except for when they screw, or rather Finn presented himself to Max for the taking—it was quite the scene over a desk!

A decent strong even if it went a bit wonky toward the end.

More than hot Sex

This story is so much more than you expect. The characters are compelling and the plot keeps you on the edge of your seat. I was left wanting to experience much more of Max and Finn and Smithfield.

And boom!

This book doesn't take any time in immersing the listener into the lives of Max and Finn. The chemistry between these two characters is awesomely hot. Lots of foreplay via bickering and touches. Shannon Gunn - you're an incredible narrator!

Woe onto Smithfield

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I am not sure I can recommend it. I would definitely recommend other Smithfield books though.

What could L. B. Gregg and Shannon Gunn have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

I think Shannon knows the characters well and did a good job with them. Sometimes I could not distinguish a voice or two but RARELY, very rarely because he does try hard with them.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No.

Any additional comments?

I think this book is a must-have if you like the other Smithfield books. otherwise, it can be overlooked. The main character is a bit shallow, worse yet, I ended up feeling sorry for the bad guy... but the story does have heart in there, somewhere, under all the superficial stuff. it's got humor, spontaneous sex and more humor. However, if you are a first time reader of the Smithfield series, I recommend you check out "Mark and Tony" or "Seth and David", these were more compelling. I do love that characters from other books show up in this book too. That's a lot of fun. It was well written and a good addition to my collection but not a book I'd try to listen to twice. Might have to listen to Mark and Tony again though...

Another great story in the series!

I couldn’t put this book down! It was a great story, with a culprit to be found out, and a good bit of tension, along with the interaction between Max and Finn. I did not want to go to sleep until I finished! And I didn’t guess who the psycho was, either. I thought I knew, but was surprised to learn who it actually was. I also really liked the relationship that developed between Max and Finn. It had its bumps along the way, but there wasn’t all the contrived angst in so many books. I like Shannon Gunn as a narrator overall, but the kids’ voices seemed a bit strange, thus the one star drop.

It is amazing to me how much they were able to get into 5 hours! This did not seem like an abbreviated book at all. I would certainly have been happy to have more, but it was great as is.

Bold, yummy hot, light suspense and chuckling fun.

Any additional comments?

Michael “Finn” Finnegan is Smithfield’s exclusive boarding school beloved English teacher and drama coach. He is also the guy who seduced the super sexy security specialist, and former marine, Max Douglas last summer. —In Max office for one very good but also pretty questionable desk-quickie. A meeting which also ended humiliating and embarrassing....for Finn.
Since that embarrassing summer evening has Finn done everything he can to not never ever again bump in to the Max-Man again. So when Max arrives at school a couple of months later, to protect a high profile student against a mysterious stalker, Finn just want to become invisible and disappear.
A lot of things starts to happening. ~ It steams between the teacher Finn and the, for the day, 'bodyguard' Max. There is also someone who wants Finn's celebrity son student, and perhaps Finn himself, badly. The tension rises...in all fronts.

Amazing book!!

Really great book, so much feeling and a great amount of suspense. I never would have guessed the twist at the end too. I wish there was more of it!
