Publisher's Summary

Maggie has always put her family's needs in front of her own, until one day - without forethought - she drives away, leaving behind her indifferent husband and two sulking teenagers.

As she begins a quest of self-exploration, she meets new people, enjoys new adventures, and rediscovers long-neglected passions. For the first time in years, Maggie contemplates what she wants from life and soon realizes that her deteriorating marriage can no longer continue as it is. Can she and Andrew repair their broken relationship, or is their marriage over?

Left to his own devices, Andrew is forced to take over the household responsibilities and bridge the growing divide between himself and his children. Slowly, he begins to understand what drove Maggie away - and how he can't bear to live without her. But is it too late? Will Andrew lose Maggie forever?

What??

I'm mostly confused by this woman is so exalted for up and leaving her family (exactly what she hated her mother for doing). Her crappy husband? Ok, fine. If she didn't want to be with him anymore, then she was more than justified in leaving him. But her children? Her daughter is merely 13!! Not old enough by a long shot to take care of herself. She had no idea how that her husband was even capable of taking care of her. I was appalled by this book. And was definitely not rooting for Maggie.

Maggie’s turn

This book was really good and spoke to how couples lose their relationship and want to run away. Very realistically protests how marriages and families fall apart. Great read.

It is her turn that is LONG overdue.

Giving up her dreams, She is there for her husband, and always there for her children. Cooking and cleaning, shoping and meeting everyones schedules has gone on for years. She helps with homework, and has been very involved with the children's schools and PTA. Smoothing out everyone's lives is expected!
At work she is also doing for others. Assisting at a home for the disabled fills the remaining bit of her time. Too bad everyone thinks it is her duty. Her family just takes her for granted. No one gives her any thanks. Emotionally and physically burned out, she must do something!
After delivering her daughter to school, she just turns the car the wrong way at an intersection and drives away.

Predictable and Enjoyable!

This story of life and love was well paced and nonpartisan, meaning both sides of a long-standing marriage were presented. Writer keeps you wondering right to the end, but doesn't drag it out. Family life is a challenge which requires work, dedication but not always self sacrifice. Author presented these thoughts well without being too mushy.

Contrived But it Passed the Time

The premise was interesting and the narrator was very, very good. However, there were so many things that just didn't make sense, were unrealistic or downright dangerous "in the real world." I'm willing to suspend my disbelief for the sake of a good story, but prepare yourself to "just go with it" or else you'll be arguing in your head with all of the characters throughout the entire book. The author is a good writer and I understand she wanted to bring forth a premise, give it a fantastical journey and then close it up neatly...but just remember, this is in no way realistic - or at least it shouldn't be.

I would definitely read another book written by the author and listen to another book by this narrator....but I won't listen to this book again. This is a light beach read for a mature adult who understands what they should or should not do "in real life." It's a nice escape so long as you don't let the characters' stupidity make you mad. Yes, it is contrived, but it passed the time.

Good storyline-unrealistic ending

Good story-but the end is a dumb fairy tale again....too bad, it was very true to real life until the end..

Great story, great narration.

This was my first audio book, and it won't be my last. Well written, believable, with a happy ending.

Can't Sympathize with Such a Clueless Woman

Barbie goes on a road trip -- predictable and fake characterization in a cliche storyline.

A woman I can relate to!!

Great story that seems to speak to many women who are struggling with the many 'hats' they wear, and who, if anyone, appreciates it!

Uncomplicated easy listening

Story line predictable and lacked rigour. Nevertheless it was a quite a pleasant experience. Four stars because I finished the book - if it was really bad, I would have baled on it!
