Publisher's summary

J. R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood novels have introduced readers/listeners to a "different, creative, dark, violent, and flat-out amazing" (All About Romance) world.

Now, as the vampire warriors defend their race against their slayers, one male's loyalty to the Brotherhood will be tested - and his dangerous mixed blood revealed.

Rehvenge has always kept his distance from the Brotherhood - even though his sister is married to a member - for he harbors a deadly secret that could make him a huge liability in their war against the lessers. As plots within and outside of the Brotherhood threaten to reveal the truth about Rehvenge, he turns to the only source of light in his darkening world: Ehlena, a vampire untouched by the corruption that has its hold on him - and the only thing standing between him and eternal destruction.

Listen to another Black Dagger Brotherhood chiller.

Awesome Story… Terrible Audio

This book primarily features Bella’s brother, the half-symphath owner of ZeroSum, Rhevenge and Ehlena, a nurse from Havers’s clinic, whom we’ve met previously in this series, but has gone unnamed until now.

This story, like every other in this series, is awesome in its complexities. The way it weaves itself together through the POVs of the different characters whose eyes we get a chance to see the story unfold through, draws you in and holds on to you all the way through to the very last word.

As for the audiobook aspect of it, I have to say that I have never really liked the narrator for this series. He doesn't have very many differences in his voice inflections and what he does have he doesn't always use properly. Unfortunately, a wonderful voice (I'm sure that's why he was chosen originally) does not a wonderful narrator for every story make. No matter how awesome the tenor of his voice, when he tries to come across all hip and with it, this narrator mostly just ends up sounding like a major dweeb… True!

However, the mediocre narration, coupled with the horrible editing job by the sound person that is supposed to prevent the issues this audiobook has, leaves us with a very irritating narrative that has weird pauses and sometimes no pauses at all, missing words/sentences and a definite sense that this book would absolutely be better when read the old-fashioned way.

KINGS PUT TO THE TEST!

While Lover Avenged focused mostly on Rehvenge, there seems to be a lot of avenging going on in here, and it seems to only end with the promise of more too come. There is so much going on in this book, it makes you not want to put it down!!

Basically...Rehvenge falls in love, deals with loss, and faces off with his biggest secret. Wrath tries to amend his relationship with Beth and finds he must cope with the biggest challenge of his life. Torment is self destructive, and you begin to think he is a lost cause. And John...he seems to go off the deep end after getting what he wants, or does he? And that is just the tip of the ice burg!

Once again my head is spinning, and I can't wait for the next one!! They just keep getting better, and this one is no exception!

always worth waiting for

i have read all of j.r. wards books and was waiting for this one, it didn't disappoint, if you have read her other books you know that the story is not always about one main character, there are other side character that help round out the story. this is my first audio book though and the experience didn't disappoint either, it was well read and it was a very convienent way of reading a book! you could still imagine it in your head the same way. i very highly recommend the book and for a first time audio book reader i highly recommend the new way to read a book.

Hot Rehvenge

For some reason I didn't think that I would like this book so much and I wanted to skip it. I am glad that I didn't I loved this book to me it was better than the last one. Rev who is part vamp and part sympath was a drug dealing pimp who dressed in fur duster and drove a Bentley protected those around him he killed his step father for years of beating his mother he also protected his sister never wanting her to find out that he was a sympathy. Ehlena who was a nurse at Haver's clinic was from a family of worth who had to work to pay for her father's med's and treatment for a mental disease who's health was stolen by his own family member. I loved Ehlena, who was strong and beautiful. The perfect match for Rehvenge who we learn in this book is very deserving of an awesome mate. This book was full of action and drama. First Wrath who was out fighting alone lying to Beth and losing his sight and how he deals with it. Second Tohr who realized that he had to somehow move on. Tohr finally saw what he did not only to John but how it effected the brothers as well. Third John who turned into a manwhore after having sex with Xhex he also starts drinking to cope with so much lost I really felt bad for him and I am looking forward to reading the next book. I really like Xhex although I didn't like what she did to John, but I understood why she did it her life hasn't been easy. The sympathy Queen was crazy and Lash was even crazier and I can't wait to read the next book to find out what John does to him. I am glad that Rev got his HEA and I was glad to see the all of the brother's were back together and I am looking forward to reading the next book.

Great narrator and story, bad editing

The stories get better from book to book, but this book has horrible editing. Clips are merged that makes the flow of the story irritating at times when clips run together without a pause. Other than that I love the stories and getting to know the brotherhood. The first books were slow, but get much better. This is a series you definitely want to read/listen to in order.

Entertaining

Revenge and Ehlena’s story is fraught with unexpectedness, deceit, loss, sadness, realization, friendship, and love. A few battles and skirmishes as the story unfolds. The traveling train wreck, in concept, was a little predictable but the roll out was unexpected and very well done. The narrator did a fantastic job as always!
