Publisher's summary

An irresistible novel about women, men, and the dogs that own them. Thirty-nine year old Rachel is having a really bad year. After losing her job and breaking up with her boyfriend, Rachel has inherited her late aunt's house, her beloved border collie, and a crowded rescue kennel, despite the fact that she knows almost nothing about dogs. Still, considering her limited options, she gamely takes up the challenge of running the kennel. And as Rachel starts finding new homes for the abandoned strays, it turns out that it might not just be the dogs that need rescuing.

Lovely story and fantastic narrator

What did you love best about Lost Dogs and Lonely Hearts?

The story was endearing, the lost dogs tug at my heart and although fiction their stories almost made me cry (I am a dog sap). As a compulsive reader going through laser eye surgery recovery this was a fantastic substitute for a paper book. Jilly Bond is a fantastic narrator who is able to do the male and female voices both very well (something i imagine is very difficult). She reads with feeling and helps you get caught up in the story. Also she has a very pleasing reading voice.

Thoroughly enjoyed!

I haven’t lol’d so much over a book in ages. The characters are all a very likable, witty bunch. Their dialog is of delightful, real ppl. As a vet tech, the dogs were the main thing but the clever writing put it above many animal stories I’ve read. You can def tell Ms Dillon has/has had dogs. The nuances of each breed was right on. Hilarious Bertie the Basset fit to a tee. I’m not a big romance fan but here again Ms Dillon’s skillful writing made these parts of the book fun and yes, sexy! I’m only half way thru but had to inpart the fun I’m having listening and laughing. So sorry Dillon only has one more book in Audible. This book is offered in the Plus Catalog, I went ahead and purchased the next one. Prob wind up with this one,too as I know I’ll read again. Oh and Jilly’s narration is perfect, sardonic in all the perfect places, so sorry some had trouble understanding, they missed a wonderful book.

Could not understand narrator

I can't say if this book was good because I couldn't get past the first hour. The English accent of this narrator, along with her rapid fire style of speech, made it impossible for me to follow the story.

In the past, I've listened to narrators with non-American accents but was always able to adjust after a while and understand most of the words. I was extremely disappointed since I love novels with canine characters.

Fully Enjoyed This Novel!

Where does Lost Dogs and Lonely Hearts rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I think it is up there. I wasn't too sure I usually listen to non-fiction but I bought it and listed and found myself really invested in the characters and wanting more when it ended... I have put her other book on my wish list.

What did you like best about this story?

The intermingling of the characters.

Which character – as performed by Jilly Bond – was your favorite?

Megan. The Aussie. Too funny, no boundries! Loved her!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Rachel realized she really was happy where she was and that Jem had become part of her life and that she was staying.

Heartwarming

A very heartwarming story about different people and their everyday lives and the love, companionship a dog can bring to anyone. If you like dogs and are considering getting a dog this is a good read. Beware you may be adopting a dog soon!!

Shrieking voice

Nice story. Hated the shrieking narration! It made it very irritating to listen. People in Britain don’t shriek except maybe comedians
