Ten years ago, PI Jessie Cole and reporter Ben Morrison each suffered a tragedy that changed their lives - and now these two strangers are about to share a nightmare. For Jessie, who makes her living finding missing persons, no case has consumed her more than the disappearance of her younger sister, Sophie. As Sheriff John Weber would attest, the deadliest predators to date in his tiny hamlet were the alligators lurking in the nearby swamps. But that was before someone abducted and murdered a runaway teenage girl...and before the disappearance of popular and pretty Liana Martin. The pattern is chilling to Sandy Crosbie, the town's new high school English teacher who wishes she'd never come to the seemingly quiet town with shocking depths of scandal, sex, and brutality roiling beneath its surface.
In this compelling novel, Fielding introduces two brothers, Will and Jeff, and their friend, Tom, a trio of playboys out to make something happen in the hot sands of South Beach. One night at their favorite watering hole, they make a bet on who will be the first to seduce a mysterious young woman they’ve never seen before. Dark-haired and blue-eyed, Suzy has a disarming, girl-next-door aura about her. But these players have no idea what they’re dealing with.
A hostile relationship with her sister and a complicated past with her father's second wife have kept Robin estranged from her family for many years. But when her father's new family is attacked in their house, with her father and his wife in critical condition in the hospital, she returns home determined to put her experience as a therapist to use to help mend fences and care for her young stepsister, who survived the attack relatively unscathed.
Elementary school teacher Jacqueline "Jacks" Morales's marriage was far from perfect, but even in its ups and downs it was predictable, familiar. Or at least she thought it was...until two police officers showed up at her door with devastating news. Her husband of eight years, the one who should have been on a business trip to Kansas, had suffered a fatal car accident in Hawaii. And he wasn't alone.
Lost left me wondering in Joy Fielding lost her original talent of intrigue. After enjoying several of Joy Fielding's books I just knew I was in for a treat, but I was wrong this time. I don't know what happened; the reading was monotone and the story was boring and mundane.
