Publisher's summary

Written in prison and based on real-life experiences, this is the novel that launched the writing and publishing career of the best-selling author of Still Dirty, Dirty Red, and Imagine This, the reigning "queen of urban fiction" (Publishers Weekly).

Vickie M. Stringer wrote Let That Be the Reason when she was still serving her seven-year sentence for drug trafficking. When she couldn't find a publisher, she printed the novel herself and sold it out of the trunk of her car. "I've exposed myself with the prayer that my life can be used as an example to warn others of the awful dangers of the drug game," she wrote in its afterword.

Let That Be the Reason begins when a drug dealer abandons his girlfriend, Pamela Xavier, leaving her with nothing but a stack of bills, an empty refrigerator, and an impending eviction notice. Backed into a corner and with no prospects in sight, Pamela decides to get her hustle on. Transforming herself into Carmen, she learns to deal with the streets, the playas, the drug lords - and, of course, the law - by any means necessary. In no time, she is running a call girl service, a fencing operation, and a drug cartel, all while still being a mom. Carmen wants money, but she also wants happiness. The problem is that she doesn't quite understand what real happiness is and what real love means - or what it all costs.

Let That Be the Reason is a true-to-life saga of a woman's love, ambition to survive, forgiveness, and salvation.

Better The 2nd Time

I bought and read this book when it was first released. After finishing The Reason Why, I had to listen to this one again. I thought I would remember more of the story but as I listened all I could remember was that in the end Chino betrayed Pammie again. As I listened I wished she was a real person and I could go to her and shake some sense into her. Why, Why, Why couldn't she see Chino for the snake that he was and had always been and why she never followed her intuition when it came to him and some of the other "grown up boys" she was dealing with. They say hindsight is 20/20 and she finally got it in the end but look at the cost she paid. I truly believe women can hustle and achieve just as much as men in this game but they have to truly have their own backs only and live by the code of never trusting ANYONE. I still can't get my mind to understand WHY she still felt to tied to and loyal to Chino after all that he did. I get wanting her son to know his father and have a relationship with him but Chino gave her so many reasons why not having him in her son's life was better for him. I know you have to forgive people but for me that's all I would have offered Chino, is forgiveness and left his ass in the wind like he did me. I know I shouldn't say this but I was hoping Dragos and his men would take care of Chino. I need another book in which Chino is dealt with 😆
I did enjoy this the 2nd time around and the narrator was excellent 👌. Now I guess I'll go back and listen to the Dirty Red series because I love me some Vickie M. Stringer.

Interesting

I liked the narrator of the story. There is a little bit of everything in this story...wonder what happens next...how are the loose ends tied together?

Pretty good…

The narrator was so good! The story line was a bit predictable, but I still loved it! I was getting so mad at her!! Ugh! I want to get Chino! Lol #teamDelano
