Publisher's summary

From one of America's most versatile and celebrated writers, Legends of the Fall is Jim Harrison's classic trilogy of epic novellas.

The publication of this magnificent trilogy of short novels—Legends of the Fall, Revenge, and The Man Who Gave Up His Name—confirmed Jim Harrison's reputation as one of the finest American writers of his generation. These absorbing novellas explore the theme of revenge and the actions to which people resort when their lives or goals are threatened, adding up to an extraordinary vision of the twentieth-century man.

Set in the Rocky Mountains, Legends of the Fall is the epic tale of three brothers and their lives of passion, madness, exploration, and danger at the beginning of World War I. In Revenge, love causes the course of a man's life to be savagely and irrevocably altered. And in The Man Who Gave Up His Name, a man named Nordstrom is unable to relinquish his consuming obsessions with women, dancing, and food.

So different!

Well, sorry I am a romantic! I loved the movie.
The book was disappointing to me. It was completely different! I almost didn't recognize it.
I also thought this was the most sloppy of the three novellas.

Not what I expected but still excellent.

I thought this was just going to be the original script that they took the story from to make the movie. The other two stories are awesome as well. Great find.

Wonderful stories

I really enjoyed the authors writing style, and could feel the dull pain in life expressed in the writing. Poetic and at the dame time captivating.

Male adventure

At first I didn't realize there were three stories here. All three have a little bit of a cowboy flavor to them. . . horses, Native Americans, knives, even some guns, but all three stories are interesting in their own right. To some extent, they're all about male angst.

Wonderful book.

I loved the movie and was excited to learn that it was based on a book. There are three books included with this audiobook. Legends of the Fall is only the last two hours of the book. Didn’t listen to the other two books, but legends was phenomenal.

WTH?

Great book. Well read. But not ‘Legends of the Fall’. What’s up Audible. Glad it was included with my subscription.

Harrison at hi best

I liked the movie very much, but the written story is so much better, and the Audible production is outstanding. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

Good Narrator for Amazing Work

Any additional comments?

Jim Harrison was at the top of his game when he wrote these three novellas. The title story is the most famous, and it is deserving of its fame, but the other two are just as good. They don't get the same attention, probably because they aren't set during WW1 and Prohibition. They are worth hearing.
Mark Bramhall has a very good voice for Harrison's characters. He's appropriately gravelly.

Jim Harrison was one of our finest authors, and I wish more of his older stuff was on audiobooks.
