Publisher's summary

What would happen if millions of people around the world suddenly disappeared one day? In this fascinating apocalyptic thriller, best-selling Christian inspirational authors LaHaye and Jenkins pool their considerable talents to answer that question. Narrator Richard Ferrone's unusually deep and hypnotic voice will keep you right in the middle of this not-unimaginable end of the world nightmare.

Pilot Rayford Steele is contemplating adultery with a young flight attendant when over 100 of his passengers simply vanish, leaving vacated clothes and bewildered companions. Rayford and the others left behind must deal with mass chaos on top of personal loss. Among the passengers still left is star reporter Cameron "Buck" Williams, who just got the assignment of a lifetime: find out what happened and why. Theories abound, from Christian Rapture to alien abduction. Buck suspects secret meetings between international power brokers are somehow connected. And rising political icon Nicolae Carpathia seems to be at the center of it all.

Makes you think

In general christians unconciously (or not) tend to imagine some of the less than pleasant scenes (future or past) in the bible not actually taking place being. This book makes an effort to present one possible interpretation of the end times as a real life situation and has you think how would you deal with it. This is obviously a challenge for the authors but they do a pretty good job.

Whether the actual interpretation is correct (pre-trib / post-trib etc) is probably less important than :

1. It makes you think about the whole issue
2. It is a good clean adventure story
3. It will likely leave you wondering what will happend next (and ready to buy the next one in the series).

It is the first christian tradition based fiction I have read and I certainly enjoyed it.

Probably the best part of the book is its attempt to describe in some way what it might be like to find parts of your family disappeared in the rapture and you were "left behind".

No particular complaints about the narration.

Interesting truth

I hate to admit it, but the truth about the future is terifying. There were situations that I would have never thought of. Very real to life. This is a very good witnessing tool. Thank you and God bless.

An Intriguing Look

This is an intriguing look at bible prophecy from one prospective. While it does start off a little slow it is necessary to learn and get to know all of the wonderful characters. THe charecter invovelment, as they tell the story from each point of view, is amazing and I really feel I can put myself in their shoes. It is a fabulous story that really gets you thinking!

We must get ready

I walked around for days after finishing this book feeling like the world is about to end. Obviously a pre-trib man is Tim Lahaye. Myself I am a pan trib person. Whatever pans out in the end....

Put aside our fear and skepticism & try.

Not to be preachy, but you'll miss out on a very good story.

For believers in Christ, this is a great way to explore the reality of the one thing we are waiting for, the Second Coming. While this is only one theory about that time, it's a great way to visualize and understand what those complicated Revelation verses mean.

For non-believers, if you enjoy thrillers -- listen. The characters are real, well-developed and the plot is intriguing. The authors take a Biblical theory and write a very gripping tale with great action. But of course, I pray that you'll find more than a good read.

The original is always better

I originally purchased the Left Behind series a number of years ago. I was forced to re-purchase it because the original recordings had been removed from Audible, so I could not access them in my library. The only reason I did so was because I enjoy the stories and the theme is important to me. The stories remain as good as they ever were; the reading, not so much. Jack Sondericker, the original reader did an excellent job of differentiating characters. Richard Ferrone just reads the books aloud. What little differentiation he makes between characters is no more that making some sound like characatures of Bronx mafiosi. Mac Macullem, whom the reader/listener does not meet until Book 3 is from Texas. The last time I checked, the Bronx was NOT in Texas. Nicolae is from Romania (eastern Europe). Therefore he should sound more like Count Dracula than like Andrew Cuomo. Nope. He sounds like a New Yorker. If I had the option to get the Jack Sondericker recordings, I would. The best thing I can say about Richard Ferrone's reading of the Left Behind Series is that he puts me to sleep.
