Action adventure meets sci-fi

The plot is a little bipolar in that it starts out seemingly inspired by the likes of National Treasure, only to take a ninety-degree turn near the last third and land somewhere between paying homage to, and blatantly apeing, the Star Gate franchise. I have mixed feelings about this since I'm a fan of both. It's just an odd mashup that failed to smoothly transition from a plot perspective. It's the literary version of shifting without using the clutch.

That criticism aside, as with the first book in the series, Philips does a great job of getting the reader invested in the characters. Their motivations are reasonable, at least within the confines of the series. And perhaps most impressive, the author seems particularly well versed in Egyptian subject matter. The nuances of the research were interesting and thought-provoking.

To be clear, I deducted a star for the strangely disjointed plot mashup, but then gave a star back to the rating for the nuances and intricacies surrounding the Egyptian research. I would recommend the book to anyone who enjoyed the first in the series.

Action packed

I am one that likes this type of believable history and action thrills the characters must endure, but escape.

Secret Chamber

Interesting mini series. I would recommend these two books to anyone who loves history! I wish the series was a little longer but all good things must come to an end.

Indiana Jones on steroids!

I really enjoyed the non-stop adventures and thrills of the three characters. The narration was good. I thought it was more inventive than Dan Brown’s books. I love the possibilities they evoked and especially the good triumphs over evil endings!

Great concept

because the narrative was awful, it made getting through the audible version almost intolerable. the narrator was speaking way to slowly, with no expression. if you were to read it yourself, it would be a very good book.

Such a disappointment.

I wasted my money on this one👎🏻 Started out ok but I was extremely disappointed in the direction it took🙁

A rip off

I'm surprised at the overall rating of this book -- it's why I bought this..... but wow, a disappointment on many levels. First, the narrator reminded of Eeyore, from Winnie the Pooh. If he doesn't put to sleep, you're better than I. He did improve a little when we was 'being' the characters, but overall, too much of a somnambulantic distraction. When I put his reading aside, and am able to focus on the story, it started out pretty well; the first half of the book, in fact, held my interest (despite the reader). The last half of the book (or thereabouts), the author went in a direction that was a direct rip-off of a popular syfy TV show. That, plus the abundance of cliches', and I ended up skipping many chapters just to get to the end. There's a lot more that I found troublesome with this book, but I want to forget I ever read it.
