Charmed Life with a Price

Lady Elizabeth is another variation of Pride and Prejudice. The story begins with the abduction of Elizabeth. She is being raised as the granddaughter of the Duke of Dunmore. Already the Duke has arranged Elizabeth to marry one of his peers to ensure his family's allegiance and power.

Fifteen years later, Elizabeth meets Darcy, who is her supposed half-brother, Avery's friend. Both Elizabeth and Darcy hit it off very well with one another except the Duke didn't want Darcy to ruin his plan for Elizabeth.

During Darcy's stay at Netherfield Park in Hertfordshire, he learned of the tragedy that the Bennets has suffered the lost of their second daughter. As Darcy placed the clues together, he became certain that Lady Elizabeth Montlake is Elizabeth Bennet. Even though Darcy knew that the revelation meant losing Elizabeth, he goes forward and informed Elizabeth the truth.

The story doesn't really end with a cliff hanger. Readers/Listeners knows that Elizabeth must continued her journey to learn of her biological family. They will also knows that eventually Elizabeth and Darcy will find each other but the readers/listeners will have to take that journey to find out what will happened to Elizabeth and Darcy for the ending that all of us believe will happened.

The narrator, Pearl Hewitt does a wonderful job of narrating Lady Elizabeth. She has the right tone for Elizabeth and Darcy.

I was given this audiobook by the narrator via Audiobook Blast in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated or influenced in any way for writing this review.

A short, pleasant entry to list of P&P variations

Series Info: Book #1 of 2 in a completed series

Like a movie adaptation of a book, certain scenes were kept but moved to a new place & time and certain speeches were given to a different character. It allowed for the story to be totally different and yet still rooted in the original.

There was brief swearing by a female character, which I found very jarring due to the time period. And high born people back then did not insist on marrying for love. Overall, it didn’t feel true to it’s time.

However, I did really like the relationship that developed between Darcy & Elizabeth. I actually would have preferred for the book to be longer, so we could have had more of their interactions before all the secrets came out.

It ended at a logical point, but you will definitely have to read the sequel in order to get the whole story.

Narration: Was a bit jarring at first, but I got used to it. / I didn’t love her “voices,” especially the one for the 4 year old Lizzie (but that one was only used briefly)

A kidnapping

Pam has done it again! A book that was nearly impossible to put down. The heinous crime at the beginning that only a peer of the realm could hide. Elizabeth falling in love and being thwarted by her 'grandfather'. The awful secret of Elizabeth's origins finally coming out and the culprit finally coming to light. An amazing different take on Pride and Prejudice. And Darcy is so lovable. Pearl Hewitt's narration is amazing. Throughout the 2 volumes the voices are consistent. Her interpretation of the story is wonderful, making you feel you are standing in the room with everything going on around you.

Intriguing alternative Darcy and Elizabeth story!

Any additional comments?

Lady Elizabeth ~ Everything Will Change by P.O. Dixon is an interesting alternative telling of how Elizabeth and Darcy meet and fall in love. The story begins when a 4-year old Elizabeth is kidnapped by the Duke of Dunsmore after the death of his son and own young daughter. Growing up in a neighboring county near Lambton, Lizzie lives a charmed life in the country with a loving family and an older brother. It just happens her brother is friends with a certain Mr. Darcy, and their paths occasionally.

It's comforting to hear of familiar friends, even if not in exactly the same way Jane Austen wrote them. Besides Darcy and Elizabeth, the Bingleys and even Wickham are included in the story. It's during a trip to Netherfield Park in Hertfordshire that Darcy learns of the disappearance one of the Bennet's daughters over a dozen years before. It's not long afterward that he unravels the mystery.

Pearl Hewitt did an excellent job narrating, as she always does. She has a wonderful voice that differentiates between male and female characters, especially young characters. Pearl was a joy to listen to and really enhanced my enjoyment of this audiobook. I received a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest unbiased review.
