Publisher's Summary

The stunning conclusion of a worldwide phenomenon - from the boldly original author of Captive Prince and Prince's Gambit.

His identity now revealed, Damen must face his master, Prince Laurent, as Damianos of Akielos, the man Laurent has sworn to kill. On the brink of a momentous battle, the future of both their countries hangs in the balance. In the south, Kastor's forces are massing. In the north, the Regent's armies are mobilizing for war. Damen's only hope of reclaiming his throne is to fight together with Laurent against their usurpers. Forced into an uneasy alliance, the two princes journey deep into Akielos, where they face their most dangerous opposition yet. But even if the fragile trust they have built survives the revelation of Damen's identity, can it stand against the Regents final, deadly play for the throne?

"A "King's Unite" for the story/B- for narration"

I gave this audiobook an A for the story and B- for the narration at AudioGals.

    Narrated by Stephen Bel Davies

Please note this is the third installment of a story that must be read in sequential order. If you have not yet started the Captive Prince series, please see the AudioGals review for book 1, Captive Prince, as the below review contains spoilers for the prior books. Additionally, for the general background of this fantasy, medieval like story, please also see the review for the first book.

Kings Rising is a fantastic conclusion to a memorable and unique M/M, fantasy-based trilogy. Even during a difficult time, evacuating from Hurricane Irma, when most other books couldn’t hold my attention, Kings Rising was one of the few books that was able to grab my attention and provide me with a respite from the stress of my personal situation. So that speaks volumes at how well written this story is. Moreover, I enjoyed the progression of the political and romantic subplots of this story. This is a Game of Thrones-style saga that will definitely keep you glued to your earbuds until the last minute!

Book 3 picks up where book 2 leaves off: the truth of Damen’s background has been revealed. In the meantime, both Damen and Laurent are dealing with turbulent political times that will determine whether they will be able to keep their rightful places at the throne of their respective Kingdoms or whether they will die as a result of their legitimate claims. Interestingly, as forces keep calling their positions in doubt, their united forces may just be the answer to each other’s plights. But how will Laurent deal with Damen’s revelation that he is not a slave, but instead the man who killed his brother and the rightful King of Akielos, the arch nemesis of Vere, Damen’s Kingdom? Moreover, when the truth becomes known that Damen has knelt at Laurent’s feet, will Damen still be able to command the respect of a King, or will his people refuse to follow and abandon him?

    Story
    "Loved it"

I wish there were more stories Like this. As an old fanfiction Drarry addict this was right up my alley! Great ending.

Not too much graphic xxx - which Is a breath of fresh air bc a lot of M/M books are Way too graphic (and Way too quickly) with no building up at all. Here the focus is the story, the amazing characters and the plot!

    Story
"loved the series .....narrator wasnt top pic tho!"
Where does Kings Rising rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It's pretty low-scale on the erotica so depending if I'm listening for that intent or more for an involved storyline...though one of my favorite series from my Kindle library, while I didn't dislike the narrator it was not the voice I had imagined for either main character....I had been hoping for more like Gary Furlong from As You Wish.... honestly it was only my love of the series that had me listening despite the disconnect I found with the narrator. I had hoped it would be a voice I found attractive enough to have me backtracking and listening through the dense first and second novels.....

What other book might you compare Kings Rising to and why?

There's not too many in the m/m genre I think it can compare to really, the relationship between the two mc's reminds me of Honour by A.F. Henley, in that it is told from the pov of the "servant" who is more obv enamored of his prince then the prince's complex combo of personal and political allow, and causing him to be less able to easily warm to. I felt like the storyline was more comparable in complexity, not necessarily with regards to topic, to Harper Fox's Last Line series, especially with the idea that reading later on divulges certain knowledge or past connections that were surprising and required you to think back on the first book in reflection of this newly disclosed info and how it might expand your understanding of the complex relationships and storylines.

    Any additional comments?

The third one dedicates the majority of their actual relationship coming to fruition and finally seeing some of the more intimate, personable side of Laurent, so I enjoyed that being explored. I do wish a diff narrator choice had been made ....just a matter of personal taste, the narrator didn't do a poor job... but I'd have been more anxious to go back and have the first two books on audio.

    Story
    "Adictive"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

One has to see how the story goes. The last part of the trilogy is good but not as well-knit as II - which is a masterpiece of plot weaving. This one left a lot of questions unanswered and I wish they added the Summer Palace (the epilogue) to the end of the narration.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Kings Rising?

Laurent and Damen under the stars.... Charles and Lamen :)

Have you listened to any of Stephen Bel Davies’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Book I and II of the trilogy

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I hated the last 2 chapters - until it redeemed itself

    Any additional comments?

The books must be done in order to make any sense.
