Publisher's summary

Best-selling author and acclaimed historian Alison Weir takes on what no fiction writer has done before: creating a dramatic six-book series in which each novel covers one of English King Henry VIII's wives. In this captivating opening volume, Weir brings to life the tumultuous tale of Katherine of Aragon, Henry's first, devoted, and "true" queen.

A princess of Spain, Catalina is only 16 years old when she sets foot on the shores of England. The youngest daughter of the powerful monarchs Ferdinand and Isabella, Catalina is a coveted prize for a royal marriage - and Arthur, Prince of Wales and heir to the English throne, has won her hand. But tragedy strikes, and Catalina, now Princess Katherine, is betrothed to the future Henry VIII. She must wait for his coming of age, an ordeal that tests her resolve, casts doubt on her trusted confidantes, and turns her into a virtual prisoner.

Katherine's patience is rewarded when she becomes queen of England. The affection between Katherine and Henry is genuine, but forces beyond her control threaten to rend her marriage, and indeed the nation, apart. Henry has fallen under the spell of Katherine's maid of honor, Anne Boleyn. Now Katherine must be prepared to fight, to the end if God wills it, for her faith, her legitimacy, and her heart.

Long!

I could listen to Rosalyn Landor forever, and actually thought I was!
If not for her perfect narration, I would have stopped listening after
Part 1. From that point on, it was nothing but repetition! It took the Pope seven years to make his decision, and I felt it took that long to finish this audiobook! Would not recommend.

Heartbreaking

It is disgusting and hard to listen to how this poor saint of a queen was treated. The history of it deserves to be shared for her memory. A very insightful and educating read.

Good Listen

I really enjoyed this book. She never backed down from her beliefs and she still loved the king, even though he was a huge turd.

Poor Kate!!!

In this book Henry VIII usually called her Kate and it seems fitting for this remarkable woman. Loved this book and loved the narrator. I was afraid that 22 hrs of Henry and Katherine would become boring but it was a fantastic book that held my interest so much that I had a hard time turning it off to do my work!

This book is definitely worth the money or credit.

So much lamenting

..and praying and and declarations that she’s his real wife....
However, I enjoyed the book immensely!
Starting next book on Anne Boylyn

Wonderful

The author conveyed the great joys, hopes and sorrows that Catherine endured so well that I would both celebrate her triumphs and feel her heartbreaks in my own soul. So much so that, while listening, I fantasized many times about how hard I'd punch Henry VIII should I randomly find myself in his kingdom.
