Publisher's summary

Two time-traveling special agents and a feisty young lady pirate captain join forces to prevent the course of history from being changed. Zane Kirby and Gus McAbee travel back from the future to the Bahamas of 1717, where pirates rule the waves and Spanish gold is the prize that attracts them. The two agents of the Federal Bureau of Temporal Regulation must find a renegade from their own day - Roger Turnbuckle - before the modern weapons he has smuggled back through time to the pirates of the past can upset the balance of power in the Caribbean and change history. This science-fiction adventure comedy adds a new twist to pirate lore, by the author of The Cross of St. Anne, Murder in Deer Park, and Mysteries at Midnight.

Annoying on many levels

Story review......

Lacks substance. Characters are shallow, unbelievable, with no depth to them. Would no recommend.

Audio review........

Narrator has the worst sounding voices for the characters. I had to force myself to finish listening to it.

Not worth the time.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

People stuck at some place with nothing better to do.

What was most disappointing about Gary Alan Ruse’s story?

The story lacks any substance whatsoever. It looks like bunch of stuff is just thrown together to create "humor". The characters are shallow and lack depth. The dialogues are bad. The "humor" is bland. I would recommend skipping this book.

What didn’t you like about Nicholas Patrella’s performance?

In order to sound different and "pirate-y", the narrator created voices that end up being annoying. The high pitched and grainy voices were getting onto my nerves.

Any additional comments?

short, fun and silly

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Found this to be a fun, silly and entertaining story. Loved the time travel and pirates. It's really short, but I'm not sure it could have been much longer without a lot more character development and plot.

Time travel, pirates, mind transference and more

Time cops have to prevent the alteration of the time line as a time criminal pedals m-16's to 16th century pirates. What could possibly go wrong? Did I mention one of the agents is a parrot? I would like to see more about this group and their time traveling adventures. Well written and witty. The narrator delivers on the zany characters and their attitudes. Highly recommend. Bland pirate tale

Any additional comments?

I tried to enjoy this time travel meets pirating tale but I just couldn't. The characters had no depth and the story was lackluster. The setting feels like the 5th part of a long mediocre series where the author has gotten lazy and we're already supposed to know the premise and already care about the main character.

The only thing that made it bearable was the narration. The narrator was energetic and the voices were fun. Shame that the story itself was something to be endured.

Short but Fun

Would you listen to Jolly Roger again? Why?

It is fun short story.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Gus McAbee I thought it was great that he was turned into a parrot. It was great when the female bird started to flirt with him.

What about Nicholas Patrella’s performance did you like?

I liked his voice he had a good voice for the book.

Who was the most memorable character of Jolly Roger and why?

Zane and Gus when they were picked to time travel to save the time line. I thought it was sweet that he saved the female pirate from dying. I thought I knew than that Zane was going to have a cute romance with her after that.

A Cute Pirate Spin With a Talented Reader

I enjoyed this audiobook. It was fun and had it's share of cuteness. It was different which I liked as well. While it was a short story, I think the author could perhaps write more into this story with the characters. They were fun and I loved the parrot. I would definitely like to hear more from Gary Alan Ruse as I think he's an especially good author.

Nicholas Patrella did a terrific job narrating this audiobook. He's amazing with his voice inflections. I was able to distinguish who was speaking the whole time because of his awesome vocal skills. Impressive.

Overall, I think it comes down to whether you like pirate stories or pirate lore. This story is a work of fiction though. Great job.

Fun, silly adventure. Take it for what it is.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Sure. This is a short, fun, funny adventure. The narration is interesting, as well as the story. This isn't a deep, life changing title, but one purely meant for fun. I enjoyed it, but it isn't on the top of any of my lists.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Nicholas Patrella?

Sure.

Entertaining

I received this book from Audiobook Blast (dot) com for my honest review.

I listened to this book this morning getting ready for work. It was entertaining. I found myself laughing out loud in various parts of the story. I believe the concept of the story was interesting and not one I have really listened to or read before. I like the idea of Agents going back in time to prevent the Rogue Agent Roger Turnbuckle from altering the future by providing pirates with automatic weapons of the future. My favorite character was Gus McAbee as the parrot.

Nicholas Patrella as the narrator was very entertaining. I believe he is what made this story vibrant and alive. I really enjoyed his voice and narration style.

Thank you for the opportunity to listen!
