Publisher's summary

Across America a mysterious disease is turning ordinary people into raving, paranoid murderers who inflict brutal horrors on strangers, themselves, and even their own families. Working under the government’s shroud of secrecy, CIA operative Dew Phillips crisscrosses the country trying in vain to capture a live victim. With only decomposing corpses for clues, CDC epidemiologist Margaret Montoya races to analyze the science behind this deadly contagion. She discovers that these killers all have one thing in common–they’ve been contaminated by a bioengineered parasite, shaped by a complexity far beyond the limits of known science.

Meanwhile Perry Dawsey–a hulking former football star now resigned to life as a cubicle-bound desk jockey–awakens one morning to find several mysterious welts growing on his body. Soon Perry finds himself acting and thinking strangely, hearing voices . . . he is infected. The fate of the human race may well depend on the bloody war Perry must wage with his own body, because the parasites want something from him, something that goes beyond mere murder.

Critic reviews

"Part Stephen King, part Chuck Palahniuk, Infected blends science fiction and horror into a pulpy masterpiece of action, terror, and suspense. Three recommendations: don't read it at night, or just after you've eaten a full meal, or if you're weak of heart. You've been warned!"—James Rollins, New York Times bestselling author of The Judas Strain and Black Order

“Powerfully written . . . an unforgettable central character.” —Dallas Morning News

“Sigler is masterful at grabbing the reader by the throat and refusing to let go. Just when I thought I knew what abyss he was leading me across, he knocked the bridge out from under... I think I screamed the whole way down... Infected is a marvel of gonzo, in-your-face, up-to-the-minute terror.”—Lincoln Child, New York Times bestselling author of Deep Storm and Death Match

New to Sigler's books

I honestly did not think I was going to be able to finish this book. I do not particularly like Sigler's writing style, I found the dialogue/ added description (which was usually unnecessary) transition to be really choppy. The transition noise to signal a change in scenes or chapter occurs so often, it must have easily added a half hour to the book.

That being said, the story line was novel and became engaging, with some war of the worlds vibes. Sigler is a good reader and each voice was distinctive from one another. Each character's personality was perfectly reflected by their occupation. Ex: the cops were super annoying and stereotypical to detective novels (sorry detective fans). Luckily the story was straightforward so I could listen at work.

I will finish this series just to see what becomes of the triangles, but I will not be looking into his other works or rereading these.

An interesting story

I enjoyed this story. I was captivated by the whole alien invasion. Now I have to read the next book! I found the female voices perfectly acceptable.

His female voices need work but he knows that. Great book. I will be buying the next one soon.

AMAZING! from a Stephen King fan!

AMAZING from start to finish! As an avid King fan, this is similar but different. Scott also did his own narration, which was unique with different voices for each character. Just purchased the sequel!

I went all the way with the violence

I do appreciate the gore like any other person who’s into horror flicks. I was shocked how far he took it and appreciated the non censoring aspect of it. This story reminds me of the horrible PCP side affects beside the fact that it’s truly not all in your head. The author admitted that he’s not so great with female impressions which gave me a laugh on his honesty because I was thinking the same thing. Overall, I don’t regret buying this book and, whelp, on to the 2nd book in the series!

Addicting.

This is the first of three books. It is so good I used my 1 credit for this and upon completion I immediately purchased the other 2 and finished the trilogy in a week.

The voices

I can’t help but hear the different characters from other books like the Galactic Football League series, but to me that part of the enjoyment, Great books

decent story, gore is meh

I was interested in this book because of all the reviews about how crazy a story it is and that the level of gory details was next level. the story is alright and the gore is meh. story was okay, it felt like it took to long to actually get exciting.
