Publisher's Summary

Her name is Susannah, but three men she brings together in 1970s California call her Hot Shot. She's the spark to a daring venture they start in a garage and build into an empire. For Sam, a rebel, the business is just the thrill he seeks; for Yank, an eccentric inventor, it's his vision fulfilled; and for Mitch, a starched marketing genius, it's a risk he has to take.

But dreams can have a cruel price. For Susannah, daughter of a bigwig in a competing company, success means losing her family. The trade-off is unimagined courage and a passion that will enrich her dramatically. Is it worth it?

Fun

This was fun to listen to and brought me back to my early computer days. It may be most appealing to romance loving computer nerds such as myself. The comparison to Apple were obvious, but fun for reminiscing over those early days of the personal computer.

Not worth the 2 credits

I have listen to all but Glitter Baby - I held out on this one because it was 2 credits, personally this was not worth the credits - it was not one SEP better books. I did not find the story to be interesting and the characters mundane ??? I am a big fan of Anna Fields but even did not enjoy her reading this book. I wish I could get at least 1 credit back

Not One of Her Bests

Not one of SEPs best, but was still a good listen. I did find myself drifting off in the middle a little bit, but would still recommend this read - after you've listened to all the others!

Ok

This was not as good as the other books of SEP. I found myself fast forwarding at times. Her other books are much better.

Powerful, wonderful story. I loved it.

The four main characters were unique, special and strong in four very different ways. I loved these characters The plot included guys creating computers out of a garage in the 1970s as well as a much larger computer corporation. I had a hard time sleeping because I kept thinking about it.

AUDIOBOOK NARRATOR:
Anna Fields was great.

Not your usual SEP, but worthwhile

This Susan Elizabeth Phillips story doesn't have the same tennis game banter and romantic humor of many of her other books and I was not sure about it at first. The characters are not the quirky ones you may be used to from other books but I found them to be well realized and interesting. The story looks at à fictional company created at the same time as Apple and follows 4 major characters through the changes in that industry and economy. I really enjoyed the development of these relationships in the context of that time.

Way too much information!

Would you try another book from Susan Elizabeth Phillips and/or Anna Fields?

I've loved Susan Elizabeth Phillips other Audible books. I have almost all of them. I waited and waited to get this one - wish I'd waited longer. I will try other books written by Susan Elizabeth Phillips, but will probably read them before I buy the Audible version.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Not sure ...

Did Anna Fields do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Anna Fields was an amazing narrator. She made the books come alive. But even she didn't do so well, droning on and on about Silicone Valley and a Hippie Bill Gates. That's the hard part about book recordings, you can't skim parts you don't like.

What character would you cut from Hot Shot?

The character I'd cut is the computer. It felt like it had a life of its own. Or maybe the company the three characters were building together. It took such a long time for anything significant to happen. Maybe because we already know the history of computers, laptops, etc. It just dragged on and on.

Any additional comments?

i love SEP, and felt so disappointed in this book. I have listened to her other books many times. They are like old friends. I hope she writes something new and exciting very soon.

Dont go by the book cover, fantastic

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the turns and twists. The character development. The story and the interaction of characters

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Many times. It was a fun read and yet there was meat and moments of suspense.
