Publisher's Summary

All her life, Grace Ryan was the "fat girl". Taunted and teased and ignored by her peers, she tried every diet ever invented to no avail. Desperate to change her life as her 20s slipped away, she decided it was time for drastic measures and had lap-band surgery. More than a year later, she's lost 130 pounds and is venturing into the dating world for the first time. During a boat trip to Gansett Island with the new guy in her life, Grace refuses to have sex with him and finds herself abandoned without a dollar to her name at McCarthy's Gansett Island Marina.

At home for the summer awaiting the launch of his debut CD, music star-in-the-making Evan McCarthy is performing at the Tiki Bar when he notices Grace looking lost in a sea of happy people. Evan comes to her aid and quickly finds himself smitten. But the last thing Grace needs after all she’s been through is a guy who "doesn't do relationships". Will Evan change his ways to win Grace's heart?"Another solid entry into the McCarthy’s of Gansett Island series.

horrible narration

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

someone who can stand to listen to a dull drone

Would you recommend Hoping for Love to your friends? Why or why not?

i would recommed the book not the audio

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Holly Fielding?

anyone has to do a better job. she had no emotion, no character change, i had to replay sevreral times because i couldnt tell who was who. half the time she was gasping for breath at the beginning of each blah sentence.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

anger beacause it could have been so much better and i will purchase the paperback from amazon if available

Any additional comments?

could someone not tell after the first chapter that this narrator was wrong ???

good romance

This one is good for the romance. Not as much of excitement in it as some of the other stories but it's still very good.

Love the McArthy family!

I love that the boys grow into men as they meet the strong female characters. The way they help the women overcome their fears and troubles, isn't this what all of us want? To meet someone who is not perfect, but willing to own their mistakes and help us to be be better as we do the same
for them? I love that Big Mac and Linda are shown to be human, and love their kids enough to take advice!cant wait till I get my ears on the next installment!

Grace comes into her own

Would you try another book from Marie Force and/or Holly Fielding?

I enjoy the books by Marie Force including the Green Mountain and Fatal series. I do not care for the narrator, Holly Fielding. I prefer a performance not a dry reading of words.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Grace plus Linda & Big Mac

Would you be willing to try another one of Holly Fielding’s performances?

Only so I can complete this series. I love to discover new series and typically read one book after the other. With this series I have to take breaks and listen to other narrators.

Good story - Good Narration

First of all, I think the narration is quite good - Holly Fielding does a nice job on male and female characters without overdoing inflections or drama. The story is also good - Marie Force writes stories that are entertaining and well thought out. Her characters are fun and likeable. My only issue is that it feels like she's using the plot as an excuse to write arduous sexual encounters. I wish she would realize the stories stand on their own. While I don't object to these scenes - they should add to or enhance the story - not take it over. There are so many and they are so graphic that they simply get boring. Earlier books in this and other series do not seem to be as extreme.

Enjoyable despite the narration.

I enjoyed this listen as part of the Gansett Island series. As usual there was great chemistry between the main characters and an ongoing connection with previous books in the series. Unfortunately the narration seemed even worse in this listen than in the ones that came before.

listening book

Would you consider the audio edition of Hoping for Love to be better than the print version?

Yes it is. Great job narrating especially the Irish accent.

What did you like best about this story?

Maddie's story

Have you listened to any of Holly Fielding’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Just this series, Ganset Island

If you could take any character from Hoping for Love out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Tiffany, she is interesting, and willing to tell about herself.

Any additional comments?

Enjoyed the whole 9 book series
