Publisher's summary

Hunger knows no friend but its feeder....

Tarrytown, NY, winter 1679. Willem Tenner is a God-fearing Dutch wheat farmer. After he and his family take in a half-dead old man that has come to their doorstep, a violent and gory nightmare that will last for an eternity begins.

Basilius De Vries is an undying creature. He consumes Willem's family and curses the wheat farmer with the bite that never heals. De onheilige honger. The eternal hunger.

Piermont, NY, winter 1997. Willem Tenner works at a video store and has few friends. He has lived many lives since 1679. He doesn't know what he is. He doesn't even know the name for it. When the hunger comes, he picks victims who have already given their lives away: junkies, hookers, criminals. He will soon have to abandon this life and start again before people notice that he doesn't age. Willem had thought himself the only monster on this endless, ravenous trek through time. But he was wrong. An enemy has come for him. And the monster plans on tearing Willem's life, body, and soul apart.

Warning: This story contains scenes of graphic gore and violence.

FEED ME!

I really enjoyed this story. Seemed like it was straight out of an episode of X-Files, so it really resonated with me. I liked the plot, I loved the characters, and enjoyed all the juicy bits along the way. I thought the story was told quite well and didn't over embellish some of the elements that tend to make the story too far-fetched and silly. Willem working at a video store was my favorite part with the little bit of discussion about classic horror movies. That sold me on the entire story and just made me smile knowing he wasn't some aristocrat.

Often with short stories, people tend to want to have a full-length novel made of it, I was happy with this. Either way, I enjoyed it and look forward to hearing more from the author. He tells a great story and based off this book, I have a lot more to start listening to.

The narrators did a good job. I liked the back and forth between them as they each voiced the opposite sex. I preferred Bryan a bit more than Sonya because his narration seemed to flow better whereas I thought Sonya’s narration sounded a bit choppy and sounded robotesque. Collectively they did a great job and I really like to hear narrations done this way as I think it really helps with the characters and brings the story that much more to life.

Honger

This was a graphic and horrific tale. There is no real redemption perhaps, but it was interesting and brutal. The narration didn't work for me, however. I don't think I will read this one again, there wasn't a mystery or deeper meaning in the telling. The scariest part of it was when Michael informed Willem that there could be many more of them because they could be right next to each other and never even know that the other had the eternal hunger. I really liked that it was in the first-person perspective and I liked how it ended.

All I can say is..... Weird!
A very strange story.
Would be better if it was longer.

Hungry, Hunger Willem

rounded up from 3.5 stars
wow! this was a fun and unique story. in 1679, an old man knocks on Willem Tenner's door and changes his life forever. He becomes a monster. a vampire? a wendigo? i'm not really sure what he is but he's really, really hungry. Fast forward to 1997. Willem is still around, working in a video store. Something or someone is stalking him and it's hungry too. read or listen to this short story to see what happens next! I listened to the audio book. Both narrators did a great job reading. There is some gore in this story but it didn't bother me. I would recommend this story and author. I'd read more by Mr. West.

A better take on flesh eaters (wendigo)

Wendigo’s immortal flesh eating ravenous beasts are a big Native American legend which is what came To mind when listening to this story. That and the movie Ravenous. This is a great modern take on it. The Honger is an infection spread by the bite. Those bitten become immortal flesh eaters who can only be killed By being eaten by one of their own. Really good horror story of the creation and life of one infected with the Hongor. Great story, creepy and well narrated.
