Publisher's Summary

Lillian Byrd is a small-time reporter with a flair for making big-time mistakes - like getting fired for fending off the boss' son with an X-Acto knife and breaking up with her girlfriend for no good reason. So her investigation into the disappearances of women in the Detroit area might not be the best idea. But when one of the missing women turns up dead and Lillian recognizes the bizarrely mutilated corpse, she's in too deep to get out. Of course it doesn't help that she's still fighting off the boss' son and ducking the aggressively amorous overtures of the roughest dyke in town. Now, after simultaneously blowing the case for the police and revealing herself to the off-kilter killers, she's completely on her own. Can she catch the murderers before they catch up with her?

A twisty mystery with a super loveable heroine

I really enjoyed this first book in the series. Can’t wait to listen to the rest. The mystery has lots of twists and turns; and Lillian Byrd is that imperfect, yet perfect underdog heroine I love to root for. The narrator did an excellent job of capturing exactly how I’d expect Lillian to sound. The story is crisp and unpredictable. In addition to the story being a really great mystery, I laughed out loud lots. I highly recommend this series.

beautiful language

I'm not sure why this book is in the romance section but what the heck. it was a decent enough murder mystery but what got me to recommend it to others was the authors use and language. She paints with the written word.

Found another promising series

Elizabeth Sims has crafted a great book with her main character being a flawed lesbian writer who also likes to investigate crimes. Dina Pearlman is the perfect narrator for this book, she brings all the characters to life with style.

Dina's voice was not always consistent with the characters ,,,, everyone in the entire story seemed mad most of the time ,,,,

Liked the story line a lot ,,, nut failed to hear the emotions that would seem appropriate...like when here lover was almost killed her tone of voice changed very little.

Nice change of pace

This book hit all the points for me. Interesting enough, funny enough with some twists and turns. Nice that the characters were just "Oh, by the way " gay. I have purchased the second book, hope the series can hold up.

really fun amateur detective book.

this was an fun story. the fumbling journalist, whose inner monologue i found relatable, had me laughing. the narration was simply brillant. i think they were perfect for the voice of lillian byrd.
the other characters had some real edge to them and i found myself liking more then one of them. Cannot wait to listen to the others in the series.
