Publisher's summary

Blood from the epic battle stains the ancient stone, shed from both the living and the dead. The massive castle walls provide a period of respite from the unending terror, and the group can finally honor the fallen.

As Kurt and his family count the cost of securing their new sanctuary, new friends have joined the fray. Only by pulling together can they hope to have any kind of future in the apocalyptic world. A few short miles away, the psychotic lovers receive a victor’s welcome.

Craig Arater, older sibling to Mike, rules the prison with an iron fist, meting out brutal punishments to those who fail him. Designed to keep the worst of humanity locked away, now it provides a haven for the evil in men to thrive.

Winston has chosen a different path from his murderous companions. Faced with an uncertain future in the prison or solitude amongst the dead, he chose to go it alone. A rumor about the castle and its inhabitants gives him hope. The journey that awaits, however, will be more dangerous than anything he has faced before.

Hands down, the best zombie series EVER!

I have read just about every zombie book printed, most are so so, some are ok, but Ricky Fleet's is the very best.
The zombies are an ever present danger, unlike most books, where after the first couple of chapters, they are just back ground filler.
And as a true zombie fan, I appreciate this very much.
Ricky, please get cracking on book #6.

liked this one a lot

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

So, this being the 4th book of a series, and an apparent narrator change, I wasn't sure what to expect. I was worried about being able to get into the story. That being said, I really quite enjoyed the book and didn't care too much about what I'd missed. I thought it stood alone just fine. The narration was great, so hopefully the narrator change was a good thing. Anyway, I'm intrigued, so will definitely continue the series.

Ricky does it again!

The narrator has changed, but he is a fantastic replacement. I actually much prefer the new narrator to the old one. The thrill ride continues and does not fail to stop. I find myself caring about this family as if I know them and I can't wait each time a new book in the series comes out so I can continue to follow their (unfortunate apocalyptic) adventure. I have read books upon books upon books about zombies/end of the world genre and this is, by far, one of the best (series).

Great series to date!

In a genre that is full of authors and at times seems saturated, Ricky brings a fantastic story to the top of the heap. It feels like he uses some tried and true writing along with some fresh insight that works well. Keep it up brother, waiting impatiently for the next!

A great adventure ride.

A well constructed story with everyday people as real heros combined with characters you really care about.

The whole adventure is brought to you by a good performance by the Narrator that brings the story to life.
