Publisher's summary

The chaos of war is a horrific background for coming of age, a trial by fire testing all who experience it, and changing them forever.

Contrary to Government denial during the Vietnam War, the U.S. Army regularly sent Special Forces sniper teams into Laos and Cambodia. Their assignments took them deep into enemy territory. Many teams never returned.

Heirs of Honor is the memoir of Lucky, the youngest member of one of those killing teams. A hero worshipping kid awed by the more experienced men around him, he was more than willing to prove himself to them and ignore the damage to his young soul.

He was only 20 when introduced to the Special Forces team, and “star-struck” at being invited to join them. Their journey into the madness that only exists in war is chronicled in Lucky’s journals, as well as the toll on his spirit, as he grows from innocent High School kid to scarred warrior. Heirs of Honor is a story of men enduring the horror of war, and their struggle to retain their sanity, as they come of age.

Now I think I understand my relatives who were Vietnam War vets a lot better.

HEIRS of HONOR is certainly FANTASTIC!!!

If you could sum up Heirs of Honor in three words, what would they be?

FANTASTIC FANTASTIC FANTASTIC

What was one of the most memorable moments of Heirs of Honor?

Getting away from the enemy SNIPER, and tumbling down the hill after the intended bullets
near miss. LUCKY lost his radio allowing no warning communication with his team mates as the sniper closes in on them.

Have you listened to any of Joel Richards’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is the first time I've heard Joel Richards performance and I give him a five star rating for his ability to really put more action into the reading.

If you could rename Heirs of Honor, what would you call it?

Heirs of Honor is a tremendous name. Just to throw another name out there would be:
"LUCKY SNIPER". I think 'HEIRS of HONOR' is very fitting.

Any additional comments?

This HEIRS of HONOR is riveting. The horor of war is ALIVE in this 'book'. E.F. GROSSMAN
put the smell, sounds, blood and guts along with the sweat, tears, blood spatters and explosions all through the book. He overloaded the helicopter and you can feel the strain of getting airborne while grossly overloaded in the life and death struggle both in the air and on the ground. LUCKY survived, but what a toll on his youth, heart and mind. The picture that was painted with words really puts the reader into the ACTION. The elation of success (the high) and the loss of an 8 year old 'child' shot out of his arms (another low) rips into the reader, as well. The silent activity of the sniper, with deadly accuracy, taking out a target deep in enemy territory definitely makes the reader wonder when Lucky may not be so Lucky. A wonderful book that is really all too real to be fiction. Thank you to all that gave so much to keep us safe, then got spat upon when returning home. Of course, we know it was a needless war that spilled the blood of our youth!! Thank you, Lucky. WOW! What a rush!
Great BOOK!! Lucky lives!!

Enthralling, well written and well performed.

I highly recommend this book. It is well written and well presented, too. I was too young to be drafted for Nam but have the utmost respect for those who were forced to participate. The author presents a vivid portrayal of what it was like. I wish all those who went and are still with us respite from the nightmares that still haunt them. This was absolutely worth the time and expense.
