Publisher's summary

Following the stunning success of her high-spirited debut, Karen Witemeyer delivers this compelling blend of humor and romance. When Adelaid Proctor finds herself stranded in 1883 Texas, she’s hired by a British-born sheep rancher as governess for a daughter still grief-stricken over her mom’s death. As Adelaid gently draws the girl out of her shell of silence, the governess and sheep rancher, at first, resist their mutual attraction. But as a looming standoff draws near, it will either shatter or strengthen their developing romance.

Lovely Story of Life, Faith, and Love

This is such a sweet wholesome story. It's filled with adventure, chivalry, faith, and love. It is truly a feel-good book that reminds me of a "Hallmark" story. It is a Christian romance, so if you are a Christian like me, you will definitely enjoy this book. If you aren't.....I think you will still like the feel-good aspect. Its worth a listen.

Great Story

Why this wonderful title by Karen Witemeyer only received one star is beyond me.
I bought it because of the author and the reviews from Amazon. Also I sought out her web page.
This is a peach of a story with lots of interesting happenings. Disappointments along with surprises for a young miss who thought she was to become the wife of a book peddler, only to discover to her mortification, he had different plans.
But now great excitement is ahead, not to mention true and lasting love.
Set in the Early American West... Texas of course.
An aristocrat wealthy Englishman comes to Texas to set up a sheep ranch.
One little girl who has not spoken a word since the death of her mother. (This is where our heroine comes in)
A villainous uncle and a bit of skullduggery along with a bit of mystery, make this book a great read
If you are a Christian you will love it. If not, well... I think you will find the story lovely. Pure true love and a wonderful experience for the listener
The only thing lacking is graphic sexual scenes. Ahhh What a blessing to behold.

Never judge a book by its cover!

Where does Head in the Clouds rank among all the audiobooks you???ve listened to so far?

Well, I've listened to almost 100 books, so I can't really rank it in that respect, but it's definitely in the top 20.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Head in the Clouds?

When the little girl starts talking again after her father is shot. It's poignant, and literally brought me to tears. It's either that moment or the moment when the main character is attacked in the barn.

What does Nicole Poole bring to the story that you wouldn???t experience if you just read the book?

Nicole Poole is great! I enjoyed her reading of Tailor Made Bride, but even more so Head in the Clouds. She gets the English accents spot on for those characters, where I've listened to some books where the narrator leaves it out comopletely, which makes it confusing. It's also hard to read something and hear the accent as you read it, so in that respect, you get more out of the audiobook.

If you could take any character from Head in the Clouds out to dinner, who would it be and why?

As much as I'd love to take a handsome, rich, English Lord out to dinner, I would have to say Adelaid. I share this character's love of literature, and was pleasantly surprised to hear Jane Eyre (my favorite novel of all time bar none) referenced a few times throughout the book.

Any additional comments?

This book has way more going for it than the summary can say. It was surprise after surprise, event after event, and the strength of the main character comes through in many different ways. It's a fictional story, but I can imagine the scenarios actually happening with the characters. A real romance grows, and there is real danger in the story, and real sadness. I actually cried during this book, which is a rare thing for me. Karen Witemeyer has become a new favorite Christian Romance author, and I highly recommend her. With each book, her growth in writing is becoming apparent, and I can't wait to see how her career goes. I'm certainly going to keep up with her.

Good...but beware of an animal dying.

I really wish I would have known that the leading lady's beloved horse died before I read/listened to the book. Over all it was an interesting story. Not amazing but entertaining. Unfortunately for me the death of an animal taints a story. I had a really hard time getting past this element of the book. I feel the story could have been just as strong without the death and some other connection...but I am not the author, so instead I give you the disclaimer. I hope knowing helps you enjoy the story more.

Finding love in Texas

This book is set in the 1880s. A female school teacher quits her job and leaves her home to find a traveling salesman that she believes loves her. She wants to marry him. But he betrayed and tricked her and she must find a new direction to go. She answers an advertisement and gets a job as the governess for a little girl who is the ward of a sheep rancher. She settles in well to her new life and is captivated by the Rancher and his little ward. However trouble is in the air. The uncle of the little girl wants to get his hands on her because she has been left all the family money. The uncle is very evil - a true Villain!!

I read this book a second time after about 5 years and enjoyed it more the second time than the first. It is a sweet story and the theme and most of the characters are very religious. Some people may be turned off by the spiritual nature of the story, but I was NOT turned off. The teacher and the rancher are good people and they relied on God to guide them in all endeavors. I found that to be touching and wonderful. It made me want to be more reliant on God when I make decisions. rather solely on my own judgement

Oh sweet angst!

I loved the characters so much. Even the bad guy was well written. Terribly sinister. I laughed and cried. The narrator is incredibly gifted with English accents and children’s voices.
Such a great story and audio production!
