Publisher's summary

Tigger Flint and Thomas Flame shared an instant mutual hate for one another from the day they met in sixth grade. Their dislike grew into competition and rivalry throughout high school as they were stuck in the same honors classes and played the same sports. That hatred and rivalry followed them into adulthood as one became a cop and the other a fireman.

Sharing the same haunt, Guns and Hoses, gave everyone from both departments plenty of opportunity to witness their personal war. Being forced back onto the football field for charity gave both men another venue for their hatred and rivalry to make an appearance.

But those feelings weren't the only emotions in attendance and the winner of games could just be both of them.

This book contains adult m/m sexual situations and is intended for listeners of legal age in the country in which they reside.

Worth reading

This was a fun story to read, well written, interesting, and both guys were likeable. The sex scenes were hot, not overdone, and made me wish I could have them both.

Horrible head-hopping!

It was a tough story to follow in the ebook and worse in audio. The head-hopping makes it near impossible to tell who was speaking. Don't buy this in audio without reading the ebook first. Then decide if it's worth the audio price.

DNF - but more like Could Not Finish

The primary problem is that the author switches between point of view MID CONVERSATION... multiple times! .. it’s virtually impossible to pay attention to what’s happening because you are constantly trying to figure out who the hell is talking!
When I got to the lyrics - I was out . Holy cow . An editor could have made this a great story . So glad I didn’t pay for this. 👎🏻
The narrator was fine
The story had potential
The execution was disastrous

What?

It just…ended. That was weird. Is there a book 2 or some sort of follow up? It was going along fine and then drama, epilogue, done. I don’t feel like I got resolution. I’m off to see if there’s more.

Story 5, Overall 2? -- Did Not Finish

You may wonder how I can give a book I did not finish a 5-star for story and a 2-star overall. I made it to chapter 19 of 23(?). The story between the two MC is a good story. The author does a decent job with character development and chimes between POV and flashbacks is not as annoying as you would think. The narrator did a wonderful job with the two MC and the couple secondary characters that held weight.

My complaint, and the reason I stopped the story, is the use of lyrics. Lyrics? you ask. Yes, lyrics. While the MC were hooking up the radio was playing and lyrics from Maroon 5 and Lady Gaga were transcribed to make sure the reader understood the inner dialog and mood. After an encounter on the football field, more lyrics were quoted while the MC was in his truck, so we could understand internal conflict. By chapter 19 when the two MC were actually on a date in a club, I was at my end and just stopped. FanFiction authors sometimes list inspirational songs for their work, maybe Brenda Cothern should try this method in a preface of sorts, or just list the song or artist in the text could work (and has worked for both FF and published authors), but to actually write out lyrics as a mood qualifier MORE THAN ONCE for a published author is LAZY. Where was her editor?!?!? Where were the beta readers?!?! Where was a really good friend to tell her NO?!?!

Part of me wants to run over to Amazon and get the Kindle version so I can skip over the music selection (and some of the over the top football recaps that were not necessary) so I can get my HEA, but part of me is wondering if I should support this work after being disappointed and declaring the author was lazy (she did give credit to the musical artists so I'm going to assume using the lyrics would not equate plagiarism). If I cant get Tig and Flame out of my head by Wednesday I may borrow it from KU so it is not a complete show of support. We will see.

loved this book

This book was great. I really liked how these two went from enemies to lovers. Once they worked their stuff out they had a fantastic relationship, a relationship that neither one had counted on. I really liked how there was tons of music referenced and how the songs matched the mood set by the book. The author did a great job. Now it's time for another one of her books. Happy reading!

Another story ruined by negative stigmas.....

Authors need to start educating themselves and stop using the term "Clean" to denote HIV status!

Using that ridiculously idiotic term not only shames people living with HIV, but also shows that the author couldn't be bothered to do some research. Plus, it implies that people are "Dirty" if they have an STI.

Meh..

This was not very good. The story was tolerable, for the most part, but there was no real conclusion. it just sort of fizzled. The narration was awful. It was flat and made the already corny lines of dialogue even worse. Also, the author included several lines of song lyrics and the narrator's attempt at sexy recitation was SO cringy, I had to skip ahead. If this were not included in the romance package, I would have gotten a refund.

Quick and dirty listen/read.

Decent story. Decent narration. Great for an afternoon distraction. Put this book in the guilty pleasure pile.
