Publisher's summary

Josey Wales was the most wanted man in Texas. His wife and child had been lost to pre-civil War destruction and, like Jesse James and other young farmers, he joined the guerrilla soldiers of Missouri-men with no cause but survival and no purpose but revenge.

My Favorite

My favorite story. I love the movie, The Outlaw Josie Wales, but the book, as is usually the case, gives so much more depth and substance. Chet Williamson’s performance was magnificent, as he played each character as a master bard. Without a doubt, the best audio book you’re likely to come across.

Love this book. Love this character.

Would you listen to Gone to Texas - A Josey Wales Western again? Why?

I would and I will. Strong character with a very emotional connection.

What other book might you compare Gone to Texas - A Josey Wales Western to and why?

Just a great western with a deep, deep emotion under it all. You will root for this bad guy from start to finish.

Which character – as performed by Chet Williamson – was your favorite?

Chet did great and he can even sing....a little bit.... Great work.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Listen to while driving and I hated getting to work and I looked forward to the drive.

Any additional comments?

Thank God there is a sequel. I want more, more more.

Great performance!!!

As a big fan of the 1976 Clint Eastwood movie based on this book, it was great to listen to the original and Chet Williamson nails the Josey Wales persona perfectly, and brings all the characters to life.

Loved It

If you have seen the movie, the movie followed along pretty closely. The authors use of creative language was great.

Worth a read? I reckon so.

This story has it all: the action of the fight, the brutality of the landscape, the music of the language, the finality of death, and the eternal quality of love. And Chet Williamson with his versatility of voice brings each character and each scene to life.

I loved this book so much I wanted to marry it.

One of my favorites...

A solid and enjoyable old western novel with historical roots in the Missouri/Kansas border conflict of the American Civil War. A particularly ugly region of what was already a bloody and vile struggle.

The story was brought to life by Clint Eastwood in the movie "The Outlaw Josey Wales."

Well worth the read.
