Publisher's summary

Four spine-tingling short stories from masters of the genre, read by Michael Maloney, Eleanor Bron, and Andrew Sachs. 'The Phantom Coach' by Amelia B. Edwards; 'The Judge’s House' by Bram Stoker; 'The Tapestried Chamber' by Sir Walter Scott; 'The Man of Science' by Jerome K. Jerome.

In 'The Phantom Coach', a young man lost on the moors in a snowstorm takes refuge in a lonely farmhouse. Anxious not to be stranded overnight, he makes a fateful decision....

'The Tapestried Chamber' sees General Browne visiting his old friend Lord Woodville in his picturesque castle. But Browne’s night in the tapestried chamber is not to be a pleasant one.

'The Judge’s House' finds Malcolm Malcolmson searching for a quiet place to study for his exams. His choice of an isolated house previously owned by an evil hanging judge is to have terrible consequences....

Finally, in 'The Man of Science', the hate of one man and the fear of another lead to a dreadful revenge.

These four classic tales from the golden age of the ghost story are sure to induce a frisson of fear.

I Didn't Think I Would Like This Book, But

This is a much better set of stories than I anticipated. Classic horror stories by famous authors are complemented by superlative narrators.

I recommend this book.

Excellently Told Classic Tales!

If you're looking for some classic horror tales read by superb narrators, this is your audiobook! Although only 2 hours 18 mins long, I find this a great purchase (I got it on one of the frequent sales). The narrator on the first two stories was my favourite, and I enjoyed The Phantom Coach the most of all of them with The Judge's House as runner-up. Check this one out if you're a fan of classic horror!

More Ghostly Tales to Enjoy!

I loved the narrated performances in these classic ghost stories. And the background music really gave that haunting atmosphere that I enjoy in a good short tale of haunting!

Very Creepy

I love Victorian/Edwardian English Horror. For me it’s the best setting for this type of tale.My favorite writer of this genre was M.R James. I was surprised by the “Judges House” by Brahm Stoker. I had heard a dramatized version of this story from the BBC’s series “Fear on Four” and it was awesome. The story itself is great. It’s the rats I think that gives it the ultimate creep factor.Very entertaining.
