Publisher's summary

If running from a hit man wasn't scary enough, ATF Agent Thayne Wolfe has a new challenge in his life, and this one may be even more dangerous than the last. He has to figure out how to work with his reckless new partner, a handsome former Marine who seems to have a death wish.

Jarrett Evans never stays in one place very long, and being chained to a desk doing paperwork is not his idea of entertainment. His lover and new partner at the ATF seems to find ways to throw a monkey wrench into all his fun, especially when Thayne wants to curtail his need to jump off 10 story buildings.

When their boss sends them to San Diego to investigate a fireworks accident, he figures Jarrett can't hurt anyone playing with sparkers, not even himself. The fact is, danger, intrigue, and Jarrett's dubious past seem to follow the men wherever they go.

From a Marine base at the Mexican border to an explosion in LA's Chinatown, they aren't prepared for a seriously pissed off militia, a smoking hot ex-lover, and more guys who want them dead.

The sparks will fly in and out of the bedroom in Flash and Bang.

Flash and Bang

This is Book 2 in the Death & Destruction series. I read and listened Book 1 prior to this one, but I think you could get away without reading Book 1, if you're not the type of person who has to read series in an order (i.e. Me!!).

This book starts up a few months after the previous book ended. Jarrett has gone through his training for the ATF and he and Thayne are working assignments. Jarrett seems to be struggling to perform within the confines of the ATF and after a risky move, he and Thayne are given an "easy" assignment of investigating a fireworks mishap. Of course, you know this isn't going to be an easy case. That would be a short book, wouldn't it? What ensues is a lot of mystery, killing, injuries, twists, and turns!

Throughout half of this book, I was wondering if this would be a love story or if it was just partners with benefits. I was wrong! I felt the relationship between Thayne and Jarrett really was masterful. It was slow paced and there was no overnight falling in love. For those who need a break from instalove (no hate for them here!), this is a book/series you're going to want to read! And let me tell you, there is no skimping on the sex scenes, they were HOT!
The narrator of this story is Michael Pauley, who also narrated the first book. This narrator doesn’t get enough credit for his terrific performance in audiobooks! He is one of my favorite narrators and I know going into a book that he is going to kill it! The narrator does a great job of getting each character a voice, and doesn’t simply read the book, he brings all the characters and story to life! He has a beautiful, easy to listen to voice, keeps a good pace, and expresses emotion perfectly! Mr. Pauley is truly a master at what he does, and I will never get enough of his work!

If you're looking for a book full of action, mystery, crime solving, friendship, hot sex and love, this book is for you! I’ve read this whole series, so if you’re unsure, do it! And, if you haven’t, I strongly encourage you to listen to this audio because as much as I enjoyed reading, listening to the series just elevates it even more!

LOVED

I love a good murder mystery. Throw in some romance and I'm all in. I was in book heaven. This book got me with the first scene. What a way to meet the characters. I'm so invested in the lives of Jarrett and Thayne. I can't wait for more. And the mystery of who is trying to kill Jarrett is killing me. I hope the next book comes out soon.

Bang! This was awesome!

This is book two. I think it could be read alone, but if you read book one first, you will have a better understanding of the characters and a few of the names mentioned.

Jarret is back from training to join the ATF as Thayne's partner. They are assigned to a case of fireworks exploding, causing several injuries and one death on a military base. As the investigations deepen it appears that the case is related to a militia led by a Reverend James Elroy. There is also a few subplots with Jarret getting shot and realizing he may be on a hit list. We find out more about Jarret's past.
We also get Jarret and Thaynes growing relationship, and how they both are dealing with their growing feelings for each other.

I love Thayne and Jarret. There are plenty of other intriguing characters as well. There is a touch of humor, lots of mystery and suspense and lots of hot sex scenes.

There is a lot going on, and it all works so well add Michael Pauley's fabulous narrative and you will want to listen to it all in one sitting. Michael Pauley gives special voice to each character and I love Jarret's accent. I also like how it gets deeper at times like the book says and also how Michael chuckles, or groans instead of saying they chuckle or groan. It makes much more interesting listening.

If you love mystery, suspense. Military men, action, men in suits, ATF agents, and lots of hot man-sex you will love this book. I recommend the audio if you like audios!

Exciting stuff!

Would you listen to Flash and Bang again? Why?

Yes. I enjoyed the story and the narration was great.

What did you like best about this story?

I particularly liked how Thayne and Jarrett's relationship has developed since book 1 and how their feelings for each other have deepened.

What does Michael Pauley bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Excitement, passion, enthusiasm, great character presentation and voices. His narration draws you in and keeps to following the story.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I didn't cry. I laughed a few times. I liked the interaction between Thayne and Jarrett and how they showed their affection for each other. There's plenty of steamy scenes between these two hotties.

Any additional comments?

The flash/bang plot wasn't too complicated to follow and resolved swiftly at the end. I'm glad it didn't drag out.

I was left wondering who's hunting down Jarrett. Looking forward to book 3! Hopefully we'll find out soon.

Five Darling Stars

This series is a favorite of mine. I normally get nervous with a continued series that has several books. I worry it will get tiresome or trite. No need to worry with this series. From the first book all the way to the last, this series is amazing. Each book has new cases while continuing the underlying story arcs about Mills Lang and Jarrett's past.

Patricia Logan does a great job in weaving together a story that is full of action, romance and close friendships. Each book shows a growth in the characters and their relationships. Jarrett and Thayne are one of my favorite book couples. Watching them fall in love and work to keep and grow that love over the series never gets boring. I appreciate a love story where the MCs work together to overcome internal and external obstacles without angst for angst sake.

I was excited to see this story and these characters come to life in audio. Worth it just to hear Jarrett call Thayne darling. Michael Pauley did not disappoint in his narration. Although at times, I felt he narrated a bit too quickly, especially during action sequences.. But once I got used to it, it was fine.

If you enjoy action and adventure mixed with scorching romance, you will not be disappointed with this series

Lots of Banging, followed up with fireworks.

Beginning of the story is extremely heavy with gratuitous sex and the prerequisite anxiety. The main adventure doesn’t truly feature until the second half of the reading. Surprisingly it ended up being an interesting tale with enough twists to keep one involved, and curious enough to want to read the next installment.
Even better the narrator found his rhythm after a rough start and went on to create an enjoyable experience. Glad I purchased via the whispernet discount.

A Great Series

As the second books in the series, this book takes you on a wild ride full of suspense, mystery and of course hot men. Thayne and Jarrett’s relationship continues to grow and we get to know the two men in a deeper level. Their feelings and fears reveal themselves as they spend more time together on the trail of a fanatical terrorist cell hellbent on causing massive loss of life to further their cause. Their chemistry is smoking hot and the action is fast paced. Pauley knocked the narration out of the park as always.

And the action continues!

I love this series! I was looking forward to the narration for this book and it did not disappoint! Michael Pauley is really good for the series; he's made me fall in love with both Jarrett and Thayne, so much so, that I can't choose between either of them! (Though, Jarrett may have a slight edge with his smooth West Va/southern? drawl :) )
Patricia Logan has penned a brilliant series - I can't wait to listen to the rest of the books on audio!
