    Story
    "Penetrating and Powerful"
What did you love best about Fall on Your Knees?

The story was a well-woven tapestry of the human psyche. The inner secrets that manifest our destinies presented in ways that make it hard to simply judge another by their actions.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Francis is a character that fills the book with her desperate attempts to eradicate the devastation of a repressed memory. She is real and vibrant and loving and sad.

Have you listened to any of Cassandra Campbell’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    No.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

    The tragedy of repression

    Any additional comments?

Ann-Marie MacDonald is a brilliant writer who clearly understands the human psyche. She is a true story-teller keeping the reader bound to her characters, longing for their redemption. She delivers.

    Story
    "one wretched event after another."

A friend recommended this author so I had high hopes. After the first few heartbreaking events I kept thinking something positive has got to happen; this has to get better. But it doesn't. The story gets more interesting once Mercedes and Frances are born and their characters are more fully drawn than most every other character, but it is not enough. Not sure why I slogged through this whole thing, but I did. Kathleen 's diary near the end was the most interesting part. I am relieved to be finished with it.

"A challenging story, but worth the listen"

This book was well presentesd, though not easy to listen to. I got in preparatiin for a trip to Cape Breton to get a sense of the hustory and culture there. I was not ready for the difficult and surprising story, but, in the end I really did appreciate the book, which is well written and the narration.

    "Tedious and depressing"

This book is too long and too depressing. It has all the sick staff in it - pedophilia, incest, betrayal, hate, child abandonment. This story filled me with despair and I am sorry I listened to it for this many hours. Yes, the language and the narration are beautiful and intoxicating, so I got sucked in. It left me with a bitter taste in my mouth. What is the point of all this misery? "Life is a shit sandwich and then you die" - sums it up.
