Publisher's summary

When 27-year-old Bette Robinson quits her Manhattan banking job, she knows she won't miss the 80-hour workweeks, her claustrophobic cubicle or her revolting boss's Quotes of the Day.

Then Bette meets Kelly, head of Manhattan's hottest PR and events planning firm, and suddenly she has a brand-new job where the primary requirement is to see and be seen.

The work at Kelly & Company takes Bette inside the VIP rooms of the city's most exclusive nightclubs, to parties crowded with celebrities and socialites. Soon she's dating an infamous playboy who's great for her career but bad for her sanity - and scaring off the one decent guy she meets. As her coworkers repeatedly point out, how can you complain about a job that pays you to party? Bette has to agree - until she begins appearing in a vicious new gossip column. That's when Bette's life on paper takes on a whole new meaning - and she learns the line between her personal and professional lives is...invisible.

Wonderful novel and audiobook!

This is one of my favorite books. It's funny, entertaining, and romantic. The reader did a great job and kept me interested.

“I don’t want you to respect me. I want you to want me.”

Those are lines spoken by the protagonist of this book to her love interest. I chose this book for a fun summer listen but was so disappointed by the plot and the female lead. The character development of Bette was terrible; she has no backbone, allows people to walk all over her, and is so obsessed with her love interest that it seems her whole world revolves around him by the end of the book. I ended up feeling very embarrassed and irritated with the main character. This book is the opposite of female empowerment and left me cringing. The narrator did a good job of bringing life into the book, but the storyline itself was not at all what I had hoped for.

Entertaining

A good book to pass the time. Narrator was great and the characters were interesting although the story line was average.

Not the best

While I enjoyed the performance, it wasn't my favourite as I found Bette spineless and wishy-washy. I got that she was caught in between, but about half way through, her whole "I'm sorry, I have no choice, it's my job" routine was getting old. I felt compelled to yell "own your choices girl!" at my iPhone. To be fair, this feeling is undoubtedly exacerbated by the fact that this is my fourth consecutive Weisberger read, and this is a definite common trait with her heroines. Even so, I found Bette just a little bit worse than the others, so many aspects of her life were a farce.
That aside, the performance was great and the story isn't bad, my main issue is just that I couldn't identify with the main character.

Agonizing Performance

Of the hundreds of books I've listened to, this is in my Top 3 worst performance - or maybe it's the editing. The pauses between thoughts, the gasps for breath, the lack of real inflection made me wonder why people say it's a good performance. The book could have been shortened by 25% (it's overly long) if the editing had reduced these crazy gaps and gasps.

The story was average, by far the weakest of Lauren Weisberger's books. None is really stellar but they offer mindless relief from the more serious news of the day. The story would have gained strength if it were more listen-able. (Actually I'd have switched to print but didn't want to spend more money on a weak book.)

Dont waste your money

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Nothing. It wasn't funny and it was agonizingly long.

Would you ever listen to anything by Lauren Weisberger again?

NO. I only listened to this book because I love the Devil Wears Prada so much but this book was nothing like it.

What aspect of Stina Nielsen’s performance would you have changed?

The reader did a good job with the material she was given.

What character would you cut from Everyone Worth Knowing?

The main character. I also wasn't a fan of the love interest. I didn't really see the point in him. And it made the story much longer than it needed to be.

Any additional comments?

I found this book to be long and pointless. I keep waiting for her to make a good decision, or for her to do something I would have thought she would do. All of her actions where the complete opposite of what I would have had the character do. I didn't like this book at all.

Weak minded main character

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Don't know or care. Good story but weak main character who everyone pushes around.

Would you ever listen to anything by Lauren Weisberger again?

Maybe.

What about Stina Nielsen’s performance did you like?

It was okay.

What character would you cut from Everyone Worth Knowing?

Nobody

What a waste!

I absolutely love audible and listening to audio books. Lauren weisberger is definitely one of my favorite authors!!! She is brilliant however, if she had any choice in who read this one, well I honestly kept thinking Stina must be some relation. Stina is absurdly terrible. To be Frank, I want my point back and the few hours I lost hoping maybe stone was nervous. Maybe she will get better as the book goes on. Nope! She can’t read at all and her tone is terrible. She completely ruined this book. I will keep an eye on it to see if Weisberger gets a clue and hires a new voice actor. As it is now, I do NOT recommend! Do not buy it. You will be mad!

Too young for me

I struggled through but made it to the end deciding that I'm too old to enjoy this book. I'm sure it would be appealing to 18 to 22-year-olds but after The Devil Wears Prada, I was expecting something slightly more sophisticated.

Lauren Weisberger...Where are you!?

Everyone Worth Knowing was just another in her long line of A+ novels! The hot social scenes and big lights ,mixed in with the Ms. & Mr. anyone characters interacting in that world. How fun! And Lauren fills that with so many surprising twists and turns....a new, great, Winner!,
We need more from Lauren now! She’s the best!
