Publisher's Summary

No one's ever told Eleanor that life should be better than fine.

Meet Eleanor Oliphant: She struggles with appropriate social skills and tends to say exactly what she's thinking. Nothing is missing in her carefully timetabled life of avoiding social interactions, where weekends are punctuated by frozen pizza, vodka, and phone chats with Mummy.

But everything changes when Eleanor meets Raymond, the bumbling and deeply unhygienic IT guy from her office. When she and Raymond together save Sammy, an elderly gentleman who has fallen on the sidewalk, the three become the kinds of friends who rescue one another from the lives of isolation they have each been living. And it is Raymond's big heart that will ultimately help Eleanor find the way to repair her own profoundly damaged one.

Smart, warm, uplifting, Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine is the story of an out-of-the-ordinary heroine whose deadpan weirdness and unconscious wit make for an irresistible journey as she realizes...

The only way to survive is to open your heart.

What the Critics Say

"Move over, Ove (in Fredrik Backman's A Man Called Ove) - there's a new curmudgeon to love." (Booklist )

"Eleanor Oliphant is a truly original literary creation: funny, touching, and unpredictable. Her journey out of dark shadows is absolutely gripping." (Jojo Moyes, New York Times best-selling author of Me Before You)

"Narrator Cathleen McCarron's articulated British accent and studied pacing lend weight to Eleanor's apparent alienation from the world - and her immediate charm to listeners.... While supporting characters are well defined with distinct voices and accents, McCarron especially shines in setting the story's emotional tone." (AudioFile)

"Top 10 Best Books Ever Read"

The narrator was perfectly suited to this wonderfully written book. We all know an odd duck like Eleanor Oliphant, but we often don't consider what kind of life leads to the way they are. This story is very funny a lot of the time, but there is a darkness creeping around the edges. Brilliantly narrated--would love to see this made into a movie.

    Story
    "Exquisite writing, fantastic narrator."

The detail, descriptions and subtle moments are just perfection. I will never forget this book and the character like no other that is Eleanor Oliphant. It's hard to put words around it now because it's still ruminating inside me but this was absolutely one of my all time favorites. Love the plot twist at the very end concerning her mother. Highly highly recommend this book.

    "Almost Completely Fine"

I really enjoyed this book. I liked the humor and characters in the story. The reader was excellent. If not for the f-bombs, I would have said the book was completely fine.

    "This story has it all"

I loved this book. It is about quirky characters. It is humorous. It will make you cry. It addresses the social issue of kids in government care. It has a bit of a mystery. Most importantly, it is about love. Real, unconditional, sacrificial, hope inspiring love.

"Original and touching but also very funny"
Would you consider the audio edition of Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine to be better than the print version?

    N/A

The character of Eleanor was fascinating.

What about Cathleen McCarron’s performance did you like?

She really captured the nuance of the accents.

The book captured some universal truths about social awkwardness and loneliness and gave them a heartbreaking context, but also found humor and pathos in the characters.
