Publisher's summary

A prophetic dream. An emp attack. The ultimate contest for survival!

Danny and Alisa's lives are turned upside-down when Danny begins having prophetic dreams about the judgment coming upon America. Through one of Danny's dreams, they learn about the imminent threat of an EMP attack which will wipe out America's electric grid, sending the country into a technological dark age.

Living in a nation where life-sustaining systems of support are completely dependent on electricity and computers, the odds for survival are dismal. Municipal water services, retail food distribution, police, fire, EMS, and emergency services will come to a screeching halt. Hunger, despair, and panic will push desperate people to commit unthinkable acts against their fellow human beings.

If they want to live through the most catastrophic period in American history, Danny and Alisa will have to race against time to get prepared, before the lights go out. Don't miss this epic thrill ride. Get your copy and start this heart-stopping EMP saga today!

This is the complete, four-book box set containing book one: Behold Darkness and Sorrow, book two: Ichabod, book three: A Haunt for Jackals, and book four: Vengeance.

As with all books by Mark Goodwin, this audiobook contains no profanity and no embarrassing sex scenes. However, if you're offended by conservative principles and biblical references, this might not be for you.

Strong religion, preaching to the reader book

I made it almost to chapter 4 and just could not take the hardcore Christian undertone embedded in it. It should be under "Religious books" with the amount of quoted gospel and directive of "be a good Christin" tone of what I was able to tolerate. I consider myself a Christian but am not one for pentecostal and preaching to others. I know a number of people feel they are not good Christians if they are not "witnessing" to others but I bought this book to hear stories of prepping and survival with the hope to learn some new things. I know allot of preppers have (their) religion (Christians, Mormons, Muslims etc.) as the main focus of their prep, and I am happy for them to have religion in their lives. I don't go pushing my own beliefs on others and wish that of them. I should have researched the author more as I see Google lists "Mark Goodwin is a Christian author" as their first words. -noted.

this was the best, the very best

this was the best post-apocalyptic Thriller that I have ever read. And I have read a lot of them. It made me laugh it made me almost cry and it kept me on the edge of my seat. I got stuck in the driveway many times not wanting to pause the book 2 go into the house. also the four books set for one price is a tremendous value. 28 hours of listening pleasure

Entertaining, educational, no swearing, Christian

Good story, good character development with a variety of characters. Exciting, informative about prepping, realistic about people's behavior. Appreciated no swearing, the sacredness of life including the unborn, respect for God's marital arrangement nicely done. Some sadness. Antoine a cool character, Catfish memorable. Prophetic dreams and quotes from the Bible nicely done.
A few of the prayers not humble enough - telling God what to do instead of saying please and petitioning. Reliance on prayer and reading the Bible very good. Most of the voices good, would have preferred Antoine's voice to be deeper since he was almost 7 feet tall, 300 pounds and an Afro American.
Length - almost 29 hours - a bargain. Very nice that this was sold as a box set instead of dividing up the books and trying to sell individually to make more money. Thought it a kindness to author's fans, customers.

Very religious and preachy.

Each chapter starts off with a quote from the bible. That was my first red flag. Then the main character goes to church with a friend (and we the readers suffer through a sermon) and then just like that the main character finds Jesus and is saved. I was fed up by this point, and it's only chapter 3. I decided to read some one-star reviews and they all say the same thing; the book is very religious all the way through. I am returning this book and if preachy or religious themes bother you then don't get this book.

Decent story but primary for religious folks

I wanted to like this set so much however the entire story is filled with bible scriptures and prayers. Perfect maybe for my mother but a huge disappointment for myself. Definitely not what I expected. Returned the book after a few hours of listening. I felt like I was listening to a church sermon. Pretty sure you’ll either love or hate it. No middle ground with this one

Preaching. Preaching

Having a prophetic dream ok. It’s mainly preaching with some EMP. Way too much for me.

Educational and spiritually reinforcing

I found the book to be well balanced between fact and fiction to present a family bonding experience and how people will believable act from their hearts even faced with heartless people that you would eventually cross paths with in time of crisis.
Give the book a chapter or two and it will more than hold your attention, it will captivate you. I will listen to it again.
