Publisher's Summary

"Robert Clinch loved his boat more that anything else in the world...more than his wife...his kids...his girlfiend...even more than the largemouth bass he was pursuing." Thus begins a twisted tale of murder in the world of big-stakes bass fishing tournaments. Filled with ex-wives, evangelists, and an armed pit-bull, this is a story that could only be concocted by Carl Hiaasen, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, New York Times best-selling author, and czar of Florida noir fiction.

Critic Reviews

"The cast of bizarre characters and the suspenseful events confirm Hiaasen's reputation for creating singular villains and heroes. While he's probably unpopular among some fellow citizens in his home state, he will certainly please readers who appreciate the Swiftian wit in his cautionary tales." (Publishers Weekly)
"The action is swift, and there are some very funny scenes." (Library Journal)

Crazy real characters

I love humor and after 30 years in law enforcement I have seen the character types in real life.

Fun story!

Loved the anecdotes about bass fishing. Great characters and story that really kept my interest. The narration was so good I felt like I was listening to different people.

Ok

1st review I've ever made for audible. This was a great story but george wilson (good voice) has some serious digestive issues that should be muted during his next performance.

Classic Hiassen

A little dated but classic Hiassen. Farcical, macabre, you're never 100% sure where you're going.

Funny

Good for a summer "read." Lightweight though. A bit dated but the reader made up for any holes in the story which a great telling of the tale... or fin.

A fun listen

This is my first audible.com book by Carl Hiaasen. (I have read some of them). I disagree with the negative comments about the narrator. I thought he did a great job - especially with his voices of the different characters. I enjoyed the book and the reading.

Too long, too ridiculous, too convoluted

I'm sorry to contradict the other reviewers that liked this story, but I had a very hard time finishing it.

I found it to be senseless and inane. Character development was almost non-existent. The plot was unbelievable and rambling. This reminded me of some B and C movie "wanna-be" comedies that have no intelligent humor at all.

Even the grammar was atrocious. I skimmed through the last part of the book as I just wanted it to be over.

The narrator was fine, it was the material that stunk.

Don't waste anything on this book. I'm asking for my credit back.

Hilarious

This book was totally not what I expected. The story's layout almost reminded me of Confederacy of Dunces. I love a good murder mystery and although this one was pretty predictable, the colorful characters and silly plot turns kept me engaged the whole time. I hadn't heard of this author before, but I think he'll become one of my favorites. Thanks for putting this book as a daily deal Audible!

Funny and provocative

I don't like fishing, but my son loves bass fishing and wants to go pro, so I thought I'd give it a listen. I listened to it all day. Great thriller with great characters. A very good listen for those who like lighthearted mysteries.
