Publisher's Summary

"Robert Clinch loved his boat more that anything else in the world...more than his wife...his kids...his girlfiend...even more than the largemouth bass he was pursuing." Thus begins a twisted tale of murder in the world of big-stakes bass fishing tournaments. Filled with ex-wives, evangelists, and an armed pit-bull, this is a story that could only be concocted by Carl Hiaasen, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, New York Times best-selling author, and czar of Florida noir fiction.

What the Critics Say

"The cast of bizarre characters and the suspenseful events confirm Hiaasen's reputation for creating singular villains and heroes. While he's probably unpopular among some fellow citizens in his home state, he will certainly please readers who appreciate the Swiftian wit in his cautionary tales." (Publishers Weekly)
"The action is swift, and there are some very funny scenes." (Library Journal)

"Great listen! I'm hooked, pardon the pun."

Christoer Moore is a fav of mine. Now he seems a little too absurd even to me. (But I won't bail on him; again a pun). The dry humor and kookie but believable characters made me dread finishing. Except I will enjoy this book again and again.

I selected this book mostly because of the narrator, and the unusual premise, however much I enjoy fishing on the rare chance I get to do so. A standing ovation from this good ole gal.

    "Fabulous fish tale..."

Great story. Great characters, including a fish and a couple of down-on-their-luck dogs. Add hilarious, laugh-out-loud dialogue and it's an ever relevant 1987 novel that works swimmingly in 2015 today. My first Hiassen book and it certainly won't be my last.

    "Crazy real characters"

I love humor and after 30 years in law enforcement I have seen the character types in real life.

    "Fun story!"

Loved the anecdotes about bass fishing. Great characters and story that really kept my interest. The narration was so good I felt like I was listening to different people.

    "Ok"

1st review I've ever made for audible. This was a great story but george wilson (good voice) has some serious digestive issues that should be muted during his next performance.

    "Classic Hiassen"

A little dated but classic Hiassen. Farcical, macabre, you're never 100% sure where you're going.

Good for a summer "read." Lightweight though. A bit dated but the reader made up for any holes in the story which a great telling of the tale... or fin.

    "A fun listen"

This is my first audible.com book by Carl Hiaasen. (I have read some of them). I disagree with the negative comments about the narrator. I thought he did a great job - especially with his voices of the different characters. I enjoyed the book and the reading.

"Too long, too ridiculous, too convoluted"

I'm sorry to contradict the other reviewers that liked this story, but I had a very hard time finishing it.

I found it to be senseless and inane. Character development was almost non-existent. The plot was unbelievable and rambling. This reminded me of some B and C movie "wanna-be" comedies that have no intelligent humor at all.

Even the grammar was atrocious. I skimmed through the last part of the book as I just wanted it to be over.

The narrator was fine, it was the material that stunk.

Don't waste anything on this book. I'm asking for my credit back.
