Publisher's summary

Seeking to fulfill the promise she made to her dying father, 18-year-old Jesselynn Highwood determines to take her little brother and the family's remaining thoroughbreds from the Twin Oaks plantation in Kentucky to her uncle's farm in Missouri, where they will be safe for the remainder of the Civil War.

Dodging Confederate and Union troops, they ride at night and hide during the day. Finally, after encountering hunger, sickness, and the devastation of war, they arrive in Missouri only to discover that the situation there puts them in even greater danger. But Jesselynn will stop at nothing to save her family, the horses, and whatever remains of Twin Oaks.

Love the story

Would you listen to Daughter of Twin Oaks again? Why?

Yes, because the story is interesting and entertaining. I like a Nice clean christian romance story. I felt sort of cut of at the end of the story though, because the story isnt compleet without going on to the NeXT book. But yes,, I love it and I am already purchasing the Next two books. It left me With a good feeling and that is what I want from a book.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, it is too long. But I have listened to it when I have been out walking or doing Things by myself and it has been very enjoyable.

Good Book Narration Not Great

The book was enjoyable but the voices the narrator used made the characters seem stupid, faint and weak. They were incredibly annoying and didn’t fit the characters well at all.

Daughter of Twin Oaks

I struggled through to the end and was so disappointed with some of the Narration and the story itself. I do think that the story might have been better with one that could have carried the Southern accents. The children were very sweet and the blacks very well done.

Worst Lorraine Snelling book I have read

This book did not even seem like it was Lorraine's typical quaint style. It was not her typical style of writing. dragged on and on. characters were uninteresting. love story had no emotion.

Engaging civil war drama!

This story was full of exciting twist with a realistic rendition of the true attitudes of the times. As is my favorite attribute there was the absence of profanity and other unsavory descriptive scenes.

Great story

I live and grew up in the south so this story held my attention. The civil war was a horrible massacre, fir both sides and this story gives a glimpse of one family.

The narrator was excellent and cannot wait to start book 2 to see what happens

Great series

The book is very well written and the narrator read it well. Loved reading it as a paperback and then hearing it as an audiobook.

Worst narrator ever

I've listened to over a 150 audio books. This narrator's Southern accent and her rendition of men's voices was absolutely abysmal. I love Lorraine Snelling's books, but this narrator ruined this book for me. If I could've given this narrator negative five stars, I would've.
