Publisher's summary

Kelly Frank is EarthCent's top diplomat on Union Station, but her job description has always been a bit vague. The pay is horrible and she's in hock up to her ears for her furniture, which is likely to end up in a corridor because she's behind on rent for her room. Sometimes she has to wonder if the career she has put ahead of her personal life for 15 years is worth it.

When Kelly receives a gift subscription to the dating service that's rumored to be powered by the same benevolent artificial intelligence that runs the huge station, she decides to swallow her pride and give it a shot. But as her dates go from bad to worse, she can only hope that the supposedly omniscient AI is planning a happy ending.

Excellent start to a wonderful series

I have the entire series (so far) in Kindle, and have a really strong liking for the characters and stories told in these books.

The stories are clean, with an undercurrent of humor, and the personalities and detailed story line make the series enjoyable.

I've decided to buy the entire series in audiobook format too, just to tide me over while waiting for the next books written by this author.

It's a feel-good experience to go through this series. It's been a while since I read book 1, so I was a little surprised that there were a few parts to the first book that seemed to go slowly. But, if you read this series of books, you will see that the world-building is detailed and sophisticated. So, the foundation of this world is being set in Date Night on Union Station, and the main characters introduced. The story picks up pace closer to the end of the book, and that's pretty much the pace set for the rest of the series.

I recommend this series to everyone - even non sci-fi readers. Because it's about interaction - between people, between people and aliens, between people and AI. It's fantastic.

It's the opposite of dystopian, or trashy, or violent books.

It's refreshing.

The author's vision of a future world where humanity has gone into space, how business is conducted, how things work - communication, agriculture, holograms, food, games, all kinds of tech, makes the series even more interesting. All this sophisticated visionary predicting is casually woven into the story lines with straightforward and sometimes mischievous dialogue.

It's great writing. The narrator does a good job. It didn't take long to adjust to her voice and soon I was deep into the story.

A favorite of mine

I read this series several years ago and never realized it had an audio version. This is a great palate-cleanser series when you're burnt out on world-ending events, huge amounts of interpersonal drama, etc. There's great subtle humor and just an overall heart-warming adventures. No one's ever in real peril and there's always a happy ending.

A wonderful listen.

Good bit of humor and a quite believable set of characters and situations. I wish the others were available in Audible as well.

Funny and well written!!

This is not a it, sexy romance. It is a funny and well written book you'll want to listen to multiple times. Ending was a little abrupt so I'm thrilled there is a follow on concerning her married life. If you want a good beach read that will keep you laughing, this is it!

Warm, Intelligent and Funny

Date Night is the first of E M Foner's excellent, caring, humorous and engaging "Union Station" series. The characters (human and alien) are well-developed, the narration is strong, and this is highly-recommended entry point to a great, and very unusual, series.

Very fun material and I can't wait to continue, I'm sure plenty of ladies, but just future ladies, but present could relate, some might not be hot in the same way, but could feel like it sometimes.

Better than I expected

I had this in my wish list for months and was very hesitant based on a couple of reviews. But after the first few chapters I really because as me intrigued. By chapter 17 I bought 3 more audible credits and the next book in the series. I don't think I will be disappointed. Not as slap stick or continuously funny as some books this book still had some good humour. I would recommend.

Very glad i got it!

After listening to this book, I've since listened to about 6 more in this series and i can say whole heartedly that this is a beautiful, touching, relaxing and enjoyable series. Definitely something that fans of space sci fi will want to check out. The low key vibe of these books reminds me of Becky Chambers preferred style of plot. Its more about the people, society and interpersonal relationships than any one big dramatic event. I think we need more of that in todays literature. The majority of sci fi books i run into these days are military space operas or are about alien invasions or such like and lean a little heavy on the conflict and war side of things when telling the story. Dont get me wrong, i dig that kina thing from time to time, but a book like this one is a refreshing change of pace and I'd enjoy being able to listen to more of these types of stress reducing listens instead of the high octane kind.

This book in particular i feel like kina got off on the wrong foot a bit. The plot got kina annoying at times. All the dates being comically horrible for both of them obviously leading up to the point where they'll meet each other. The simplicity wasnt the issue, but the annoyance of the robot mettling so much in her affairs to the point where it almost seemed mean spirited. I know id be getting aggravated with her if not for the low salary and all the work stuff then definitely for setting me up on dates with all those terrible people because she thought i wasnt capable of deciding for myself if the person she wanted for me was good enough or not without wearing me down with bad dates first. But like i said the majority of the book is more about the people and their interactions and relationships with other humans and aliens alike and the little day to day dramas that come up which was very enjoyable. I would recommend listening to at least 2 of these books before judging anything too harshly becuase once the cast of characters and familys grow and we get to know these people more and more the books get better and better...

I do think the "you know what" is a little steep for the amount of content included. What I've seen done alot with books that tend to be a little shorter than average is they'll combine 2 books into one 'publisherspack'. In this case wed get 10 hours of listening for one "you know what" instead of just 5 hours. No matter how good the story may be, 1 "you know whats" for not even 5 hours of content is pretty absurd. I was lucky enough to catch these on mark⬇️ and im glad i did because their amazing books but i garentee the high "you know what" is limiting the audience....
Had to get creative with the review because "you know who" wouldnt let me post my review when critiquing the "you know what" 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

Absolutely Hilarious

I don't know what I was thinking this book would be when I got it, but it's amazing! there are times when books start to feel oppressing in some series because there seems to always be earth shattering problems, sometimes quite literally, and I beef something a little light hearted to beak the funk. This book was all that and more, literally laugh out loud funny, it had drama of more mundane levels, with an eclectic mix of humor of all kinds. Cannot wait to read book two, so.... I won't!
