Surpring Set of Stories

I was surprised that I listened to the whole book in one sitting. he first story grabbed me. Some of the others ended abruptly and I was expecting more. Overall they were a nice set of stories that gave me a different perspective on mountain living. The morals in each story were compelling and I think that each person got what they deserved. I got this ARC via audiobook boom.

An Enjoyable Collection of Short Stories

Dark on the Mountain was a nice collection of interesting stories. The stories were a combination of human interest and oddness and all were good. All were meaningful in some way and sometimes reminscent of when times were slower like days gone by. I think many even seemed somewhat Twilight Zone-ish. Henry Mitchell reminds me of a classical author.

Wayne Page's performance was very good. He spoke clearly and his pace was fitting for the stories. He was enjoyable to listen to making this a pleasant and relaxing listen.

What did you love best about Dark on the Mountain?

The variety of the stories. Some of these stories are set in modern times, mentioning cell-phones, sport cars,and modern conveniences, while others seem to be in the 1800s, riding horses, traveling long distances without being able to communicate with their family for weeks.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked that some of the characters from one story come back in a later story. Henry Mitchell’s writing transported me to towns in North Carolina that I’ve visited before. I could almost see the mountains!

What about Wayne Paige’s performance did you like?

Wayne Paige did a nice job narrating this book. He has an interesting voice that grows on you!

Dark on the Mountain

Have you ever read or listened to a book and felt at home? When you can curl up on the couch, cover yourself with a blanket and think, this is what I wake up to everyday. This is what I want to feel when I grew old. I don't know if I am giving off the right description to how this audio book and story made me feel. Henry Mitchell's words coupled with Wayne Paige's voice made me feel like I was home. Maybe I should describe it as, going to your grandparents house? That completely calm and at peace feeling you get when there is nothing to worry about. You feel peaceful, not rushed, no where to be, but in the here and now.

Henry Mitchell has woven stories of life on a mountain, in a small town, and on a farm into a beautiful narrative. Each intersection brings the environment to life in a new way. Whether that be flying on a mountain with wings of a bird and having to bare great lose. Being thrown into the cold while losing all your possessions, or living your life to the fullest. Wayne Paige's narration is clear and unique. He reminds me of a father or grandfather telling a family history rather than a novel.

If you live on a mountain, small town, or love the feel visiting one, then Dark on the Mountain is for you.
