Publisher's Summary

The first novel of J. R. Ward's New York Times best-selling Black Dagger Brotherhood series features a unique take on vampire lore and heavy doses of sensuality.

The vampire Darius fears for the life of his half-breed daughter, who is unaware of her unusual destiny. To oversee her transformation, Darius seeks help from Wrath, a dangerous loner and the world's only purebred vampire.

    "Can't stop 'reading'"
Where does Dark Lover rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I would rank Dark Lover up with the best! The reason for this is because it was like I was part of the story line or in the room while the book was happening.

What other book might you compare Dark Lover to and why?

I would have to say a cross between Fifty Shades and a Vamp book.

Have you listened to any of Jim Frangione’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not listened to any of Jim Frangione's other performances before and I love how he does the different voices including the women's. At first I wasn't sure if I would like the set but due to the voices I am totally in love.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When good beats evil. Gets me every time.

I am a 40ish woman with more interests than time but some of my favorite things are books, audio books and e-books. I have over 325 audio titles and have already listened to about 2/3rds of them. I drive over 25000 miles a year and my listening keeps me sane on the road.

    "Sexiest Vampire Series Ever!"
Would you listen to Dark Lover again? Why?

I have several times and will come back to it often. The story is heartfelt and sexy with great dialog and a wonderful narrator.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Wrath because he is this tortured character who finds something he wants and stops at nothing to get her!

What about Jim Frangione???s performance did you like?

He captures the pain and the longing that is inherent to Wrath's character while keeping the intense masculinity of the man. At the same time Beth is real and doesn't sound forced or false which is even harder for a male narrator to accomplish.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Both! Often! This is a tough character who lives this brutal existence yet is surrounded by these intense characters. Some of whom are quite funny and some who just break your heart.

    Any additional comments?

This is one of my favorite series. If you love paranormal romance then this is the series for you!

    "Awkward"
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would only because the Story is good, the preformance however is Not!

Who was your favorite character and why?

I am a fan of The Brotherhood characters, Rhage is my favorite though.

How could the performance have been better?

Jim Frangione is stiff in his performances (all of them, so far). There is no Enthusiasm in his Performance. You can hear him swallowing.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

    Sure

    Any additional comments?

    New Narrator Please

    ""At First I was Skeptical""

Okay, at first I was skeptical. I am used to reading LKH and Lara Adrien, and both writers are a couple of my favorite authors, so I really had a hard time getting into this book for the first few chapters. J. R. Ward is a little different than what I’m used to and her writing style is totally different, but even during my skepticism, I laughed and made a few awe shucks comments. I smiled, I laughed, a couple of time I almost cried. I always enjoy books that make me feel something. However, as the book went on, it got better and better. There was romance, action, a bit of suspense, and a little subterfuge. There was a bit of a twist that I kind of saw coming. There were a few moments of anguish that shaped Wrath’s character more. I don’t know about anyone else, but I kind of fell in love with Beth’s character from the start. As I said, it was a little different for me. I loved the names of the brothers. I wonder if anyone else noticed that they all have sinful or violent names. The idea and the starting point are both interesting and the book will intrigue you from the beginning even if it’s kind of hard to get into. Her vampires are a little different from the norm, and J. R. Ward does a good job of sucking you into the story even though you’re skeptical of the premise. I have read countless reviews and comments about the BDB series, so I decided to try the books, and in truth, I’m glad I did. I would recommend this book and even go so far as to say, I think by the end of the book other readers would want to go on to the next book if only to see which one of the warriors is next on the list. They all seem so strong and full of themselves, and they give the brothers who have mates a hard time, so you just can’t wait for them to be on the romance train next. It was a good read, and I will read the next book in the series.

The narrator is good. I am not a big fan of male narrators; however, Jim does a good job, and I like his inflections and the way he does dialogue. Sometimes, I laughed more at the way he says a person’s dialogue than I would at the actual comment. Oh, the comment is usually meant to be sarcastic, snotty, or just outright funny, but Jim’s inflection and narration makes it more so. He’s okay at trying to do female voices, but it’s kind of hard for males to do female voices. However, I think his rendition of Marissa’s voice is pretty good. Overall, he does a good job, and I will read another book performed by him.
