Publisher's Summary

London, 1884. Sidney Grice is restless, having filed his latest case under S, for 'still to be solved', to await further inspiration. His ward, March Middleton, remains determined to uncover the truth.

Geraldine Hockaday was outraged on the murky streets of Limehouse. Yet her attacker is still on the loose. But then a chance encounter brings a new victim to light, and it seems clear March and Grice are on the trail of a serial offender.

What the Critics Say

Praise for the author: "What is so refreshing about the Gower Street series is that they are never quite what you expect - these unusual originals stand out in what is a heavily populated genre." (Crime Review)

"Follows the thread of the series, but..."

A little too explicit with the blood and gore (I literally gagged during one scene) and depressing as hell. The plot was engrossing and not easily surmised; however the excessive descriptions of violent death and maimings detracted from the story. I can give credit that my visceral response means it's written with great talent. That being said, I probably will not continue with this series...

As always I loved the book but despaired at the tragedy March endured. So sad

I am enjoying this series so much, the characters are superb, forcing me to have many a chuckle. Mr Grice is softening just a little, but is still his haughty and acerbic self. Meanwhile March is developing some of his traits - they are a good match for each other and their skills in the detecting department are second to none.

I think there will be a long wait before book 6 :-(

"Another good story from Gower Street"

Emma Gregory does this book proud yet again her range of voices is great. Especially Molly the maid, she makes me laugh she's so funny. Mr Grace is still a grumpy old guy and so rude to everyone but he always seems to solve the crimes. He is March's guardian but I don't know how she puts up with him he is always putting her down. A good story, funny and clever.

    "Another Masterpiece!"

Once again we venture to the dark side of Victorian London in the company of Grice and March. We meet a variety of characters, have our wits and emotions stretched to the limit following a twisty plot with a great ending. Don't know how we will endure the wait for the next one.

"So much better than much of the genre"

It's hard not to like all of the characters, but I love the mix of Sidney Grice, so much is dislikable by modern standards yet is true to his character, somehow therefore endearing & hilarious. March Middleton provides the perfect foil (& often relief!) to him. Molly is perfectly priceless, I'm considering buying the actual books just to see her language in print. The plots are complex, not the easiest to guess at, can take the right kinds of twists but also don't shy away from tragedy & poignancy. Looking forward to more & can most definitely recommend a listen. One of the best things, as with all Audible books, is the narrator - brilliant & sets the tone & each character wonderfully

Can't wait for the next one. I wish there had been a happy ending for March. Everyone loves a happy ending. Mr Grice is adorable so is Molly. I love all of the Grice books and will definitely listen to them again at some point. As always excellent narration. Hurry up Mr Kasasian when's next one ???

I've enjoyed the other stories but this was a bit too warped for me. Not sure I'll be interested in getting any more.

"Love the characters, but the endings feel too rushed?"

I enjoyed the entire series with the wit and humour of the main characters. The narrator was brilliant! But the 'big reveal' at the end always feels that the Author is in a hurry to finish his book?
