Publisher's Summary

If you like Sophie Kinsella, you'll love Cocktails for Three. Madeleine Wickham, whose Sophie Kinsella books are international best sellers, has written an irresistibly dishy and entertaining novel about three savvy young women and the secrets they share over monthly drinks.

Each month, three staffers of The Londoner gather at a nearby lounge for an evening of cocktails and gossip. One April evening, Maggie relishes her last weeks of normalcy before the birth of her first child, while Roxanne breezes through between glamorous foreign assignments. But Candice's chance encounter with a girl from her past reveals secret depths in the clean-scrubbed reporter, and the events that follow have permanent repercussions for the trio.

With the graceful storytelling and dark humor that have made her books beloved international best sellers, Wickham introduces a trio of irrepressibly charming women whose adventures will keep listeners riveted through the very last word.

Fun Listen, Great Narrator

Cocktails for Three is a great story about 3 women working at the Londoner magazine who meet in a great bar each week to talk over their lives. In comparison to Sex and the City (which, really, sets the bar for all of these books), Roxanne's life is much like Samantha's and Maggie is Charlotte WITH a baby. The most compelling story, though, centers around Candice and an old acquaintance she runs into in the bar near the beginning of the book. All of the characters are well-developed, some more likable than others. The narration is tops - the reader has an authentic accent and gives this book a great voice!

Very enjoyable

Good story line - a little transparent from the beginning -- but good listening. Really liked the relationship of the 3 friends.

Good for a beach read

Book was easy to listen too. Started a little slow but in the end turned out to be good. However, not one of my favorites by this author. Don't let that discourage you, it's still good for a summer beach type book.

Ho hum

I was disappointed since I'd been through the shopaholic series which I loved. This was a fairly boring, predictable story. If you need something really light and fast while your 11 year-old is listening to his Chipmunks CD as you drive through endless southern back roads for 5 hours, this is somewhat entertaining.

Cute

Light and breezy. Quick read. Not life changing, but I enjoyed it. 3 words remaining.

Disappointed

What disappointed you about Cocktails for Three?

I felt that the characters were unrealistic. I don't think they would actually be friends in real life and the story line was lacking. SPOILER ALERT: One of the characters is a lush and having an affair with a married man and we are supposed to root for her. I didn't like her character at all. Also, the book was REALLY short.

Would you ever listen to anything by Madeleine Wickham again?

Yes only because I love Sophie Kinsella Books, which is also Madeleine Wickham.

What about Katherine Kellgren’s performance did you like?

The reader was great.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Good, but not great

Would you consider the audio edition of Cocktails for Three to be better than the print version?

Haven't read the print version

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

To be honest, I don't remember much about the end except that it was pretty predictable

Which character – as performed by Katherine Kellgren – was your favorite?

Maggie - she felt the most honest and natural.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Nah. Katherine Kellgren is my favorite audio narrator, but this book is not Madeleine Wickham's best. That could be attributed to only having the abridged version available on Audible.com

Sophie Kinsella? I think not!

This book was okay, but not anything like Sophie Kinsella's other books, to which I have enjoyed. I thought this was slightly boring and almost couldn't wait until it was over. Sorry, Madeleine, but Sophie is better!

Not bad at all :*)

The book started a bit slow, but it turned out to be better than I expected. However, it doesn't come close to the shopaholic series.
