Publisher's summary

It's the most wonderful time of the year...and the perfect moment to escape to a charming English village! From the beloved author whose novels are "sheer indulgence from start to finish" (Sophie Kinsella) comes a delightful holiday story - funny, heartfelt, romantic, and packed with recipes - perfect for the winter months.

In the Cornish coastal village of Mount Polbearne, the Christmas season has arrived. It's a joyous time for family, friends, and feasting, as decorations sparkle along the town's winding streets and shop windows glow with festive displays. And in Polly's Little Beach Street Bakery, the aroma of gingerbread cookies and other treats tempts people in from the cold.

Though Polly is busy keeping up with the demands of the season, she still makes time for her beekeeper boyfriend, Huckle. She's especially happy to be celebrating the holiday this year with him and can't wait to cuddle up in front of the fireplace with a cup of eggnog on Christmas Eve.

But holiday bliss soon gives way to panic when a storm cuts the village off from the mainland. Now it will take all of the villagers to work together in order to ensure everyone has a happy holiday.

Full of heart and humor, Jenny Colgan's latest novel is an instant Christmastime classic.

I had such a lovely time with this book

This book was exactly what I needed. I love these characters, what a mish mash with little and yet so much to recommend them. Perfect story for this time of the year. I cannot do the things I once did so easily, this book took my mind right into it and thoroughly entertained me. Thank you truly.

Great story..

I loved the story and the characters. However I almost stopped listening due to the awful American accent the narrator had! I could barely stand to listen to these parts!!! If I didn’t love this series so much I would have returned the book!

cute Christmas themed romance novel

We pick up with Polly's story from Little Beach Street Bakery, where she is juggling several issues, none of which resonated with me. Despite this, I have a soft spot for Neil the Puffin and also Christmas-themed fiction. Voila: this book. Do I recommend? No, unless you are a romance story person in which case, yes. Be forewarned: this is a lite romance suitable to double-tasking whilst listening.

Very engaging

The author presents an engaging story of friendship, love, and challenges. You will be carried away to the drafty lighthouse lovenest and beyond.

An Anytime Story

This is a nice story. More about winter than Christmas. There are intertwining conflicts and mysteries with well formed characters. Enjoyable, save some gratuitous swearing.

Finally! A worthy narrator!

The performance of this audio book was so much better than the previous ones! The Savannah accent is still not 100% right but so much better. The story is an enjoyable little gem that makes you long for the sights and scents of the holidays. A well-told
Love story as well.

Charming and inaccurate

Tho I am charmed by this warm story, I find it annoying with so many glitches in logic. She had a car with her, there was no need to arrange one... Also the narrator, who impressed me (a norwegian) with her many accents, sadly overdid the American ones... So a mixed experience and that is sad when the story could have been better.

Touching story filled with friendship and Community

This is the second novel that I read and listened to by Jenny Colgan, and it's a perfect Audible to listen to while buzzing around baking delectable treats for the family, this holiday season! While in the warmth and comfort of your own kitchen, you can listen to the merriment and see the hustle and bustle of Christmas on Beach Street, and feel the warmth of what's baking in Polly's ovens. Colgan has gifted us with a story with all the heart of The Gifts of the Magi, and she has set her tale of friendship beyond a small apartment, in the alluring and magical setting of one expansive Sea and a very tall lighthouse! If you like homespun Christmas told like Macomber, but in a very English town, this story will keep you listening all the way through its twists and turns (and at one point the suspense between best friends is heightened and all hunger forgotten! ), until it rounds out nicely through its last surprises. Afterwards, Colgan defines how to make hot chocolate with a brick of Chocolate! It's INCREDIBLE and you have to "experience" this novel with all the trimmings Colgan envisioned for you!

Loved It!

This is the second book I’ve read by this author and I really enjoyed everything about it. The characters are easy to like and follow, I love the description of the setting and scenery and the story was lovely. I didn’t want it to end!
