THIRDS: Book Six

Calvin Summers and Ethan Hobbs have been best friends since childhood, but somewhere along the line, their friendship evolved into something more. With the Therian Youth Center bombing, Calvin realizes just how short life can be and no longer keeps his feelings for his best friend a secret. Unfortunately, change is difficult for Ethan; most days he does well to deal with his selective mutism and social anxiety. Calvin's confession adds a new struggle for Ethan, one he fears might cost him the friendship that's been his whole world for as long as he can remember.

As partners and Defense Agents at the THIRDS, being on Destructive Delta is tough at the best of times, but between call-outs and life-threatening situations, Calvin and Ethan not only face traversing the challenges of their job, but also working toward a future as more than friends.

Awesome action, friends to lovers

This book focuses on Hobbs, with his social anxiety and selective mutism, and how he functions in the THIRDS as well as how he grows past best friends to lovers with Calvin. We see the dedication Calvin has towards Hobbs, always seeking to make sure to reassure and love Hobbs. It is a pretty intense dynamic that is unique on its own, but throw bombs, gun fights, and random chaos that hits the THIRDS and it makes for a fantastic story! The THIRDS family is a close knit one, and changes are happening in the family. Although this story is awesome and ends with our two heroes super happy and loved up, it is left on a fairly big cliffhanger for a different couple that will make you want to read the next book. I’m not real fond of the narration of this book, as the characters are either monotone, whiny, or something that just doesn’t sit right.

Loved it!

It was fun to see a lighter side to the team and learn about their everyday lives. I thought that the story line was engaging and kept the readers interest. The laughter and serious parts went well with what was going on in the story. I am anxiously waiting for the book. Great job!!

Narration was awful

The Thirds series has been a very enjoyable story. However, the narration was very distracting on this one. I had to rewind on many occasions because of this distraction. The distraction was him elongating the last word of each sentence during most of his narration. It was not as bad with the characters. For instance, he would pronounce "brotherrrr" instead of "brother" almost like he was signing each ending word. For some reason Mark ended most of his sentences in this fashion during his narration but not so much when the characters were speaking. I had Book Three still on my player so I went and checked out how his narration was on this book and it was nothing like this one. Mark did a good job on the previous books, that's why I was confused as to why he changed his style. For me the narration was so painful that I probably will not listen to any future books that he narrates unless he reverts back to his previous style. It's really a shame because he is a rather good narrator and I really enjoyed all of the previous books and I was looking forward to any future ones. The story itself has been very pleasurable.

Mark Westfield is still doing a great job of bring

What did you love best about Catch a Tiger by the Tail?

One of the things I love most about Calvin and Ethan was the fact that they have unflinchingly had each others backs since childhood. Ethan is a big, strong, tiger therian whose strength and fierceness protects Calvin physically, whereas Calvin uses his heart and words to protect Ethan mentally and emotionally. These two, no matter what adversity throws at them, are solid.

Who was your favorite character and why?

For this installment, Ethan, as his internal debates and dialogue are heartrending, but his Dex character is still my ultimate favorite, even when he is not the main character. I admit that his female voices are commendable but also kind of funny. I can’t ding the narrator for not pulling off the female, Hispanic voice perfectly, but it’s not really an issue and besides a couple chuckles here and there I’m never pulled out of the story.

Which scene was your favorite?

Ethan and his brothers reconciling.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Pretty much

Any additional comments?

Mark Westfield is still doing a great job of bringing the THIRDS series to life. I’ve read each book before I listened to each audio, and I never lose interest the second time around. I have to say though that his delivery is a little too slow for me, and I have to listen on 1.25x speed. I think it’s probably because I don’t need the performance to be drawn out, so I’ll put that speed on me.

Image Killer

The story is fun with a lot of great humorous and sexy moments. However, this particular book in the series is making it difficult for me to continue. I'm the first to admit that I don't have the talent to be a narrator. That being said, it's hard to get the mental image of Hobbs being an imposing looking man with the voice of constantly whining little boy, versus a shy grown man. And Ash sounds like a cartoon character that I can't remember the name of. Mr. Magoo? The last word of each sentence is almost sung in a whiny tone. I didn't notice it as much in the other books, maybe because Calvin &a Hobbs were the focal point. Again, great story, but whining voices annoy the heck out of me...just ask the neighbor kids!

Aother Intriguing Tail--ooos--I mean Tale

Who was your favorite character and why?

Calvin. I liked how he never gives up on Hobbs. I also like that he is stoic doing his job and doesn't let it make him a hardened man.

Which scene was your favorite?

When Calvin he faces down Hector, breaks Protocol and speaks to him though he isn't supposed to. I can't Imagine standing there all that time, having men and women call you names and not respond, knowing you did the right thing. but when he walks out and lays down his gun, man to man that was awesome.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

My heart went out to Hobbs. He is such a sweet man to be trapped in his selective mutism.

Any additional comments?

I had been looking forward to Hobbs and Calvin's story from the beginning. I hate to say it wasn't what I expected. I was hoping for more light on Hobbs, selective mutism, why it's selective.
Don't get me wrong, the story is awesome, with plenty of action and drama as the others, and it also focuses a lot on the coupling of many of the teams and them moving into the new training and getting back to work. I think it mostly being in Hobbs view with him unable to speak, Mark having to interject so many 'He thoughts' or 'I thoughts' into the dialogue got a bit distracting for me.
Having said that, I still love this series and the book is still a great one.

If you like shifters, especially big cats, special ops, science fiction, romance and some hot man-sex this is for you.
