Publisher's Summary

New York Times best-selling novelist Nora Roberts captivates millions of fans with her provocative blend of scorching passion and chilling suspense. With Carnal Innocence, she creates a gripping tale of murder, infatuation, and true love in a small southern town. After beautiful concert violinist Caroline Waverly breaks up with her conductor and lover Luis, she escapes to her late grandmother’s home in Innocence, Mississippi. Instead of peace and tranquility, however, she finds the town torn with suspicion over two brutal murders. When she discovers a third victim in the murky waters behind her house, she turns to her dangerously handsome neighbor, Tucker Longstreet, for protection. But Tucker has a reputation for breaking hearts - even worse, the police count him their number one suspect.

You’ll want to lean back in your easy chair and let Nora Robert’s steamy prose and Tom Stechschulte’s stirring interpretation transport you to Innocence where the nights are filled with promise and secrets are hard to keep.

"One of Her Best - Narration - SUPERB!!!"

In CARNAL INNOCENCE author Nora Roberts has created a mesmerizing tale of madness, murder, and love in a small southern town of the bayou. Put into play is Caroline Waverly, a beautiful world renowned concert violinist who is still fragile from both a public breakup and private breakdown after witnessing her lover with another. Caroline, has left the concert circuit escaping to her late grandmother’s home in Innocence, Mississippi. However instead of the peace and tranquility she expected, she found a town reeling from two vicious and heinous murders. And, if that weren’t enough Caroline discovers a third victim on her property.

Enter Caroline’s devastatingly handsome bad-boy neighbor - Tucker Longstreet. Big, beautiful with a devilish grin and the sexiest southern drawl ever. But for some reason, Tucker makes Caroline feel safe even though his reputation for breaking hearts has put him at the top of the suspect list, seeing as how he was connected to each of the murdered women.

*** Lordy, lordy, but I have listened to Tom Stechschulte before and I have to say that NO ONE does sexy Southern drawls like Mr. Stechschulte! He is a master of making a written hero pop to life as one very SEXY heart throb - just by hearing that rich southern interpretation. Wow! And let me also say that the sensuality both actual and implied was steaming all the way through to the very end!

Now mix that with exquisite storytelling by Nora Roberts and you have a perfect combination that will force you to keep listening way into the middle of the night and then turning it back on as soon as you wake up! Be it children, heroes or heroines, pets, even nasty villains - Ms. Roberts writes the books that grab you and simply won’t let you go. Loved every minute of this audiobook, the outstanding performance of Mr. Stechschulte and the entire cast of characters who made this ‘very hard to put down’ and immensely satisfying book!

    "Best book and best Performance"

This book was so good. It was a mystery that didn't end up the way it looked like it might. It flowed and never got boring. I love the way the characters were introduced and we got to know them. All though this book is a romance along with being a mystery, it wasn't over the top, it had the right amount of romance and mystery. Perfectly written. The narrator was amazing. He portrayed the characters in a southern manner that would be perfect for that time and place.

At first I wasn't sure if the lead character was likable, but as the book went on he was reveled bit by bit and was quite likable.

I recommend this book very highly.

I can normally tell you how a story will end almost before it begins, but this one drew me in the with all it's twists and turns. I loved that.

"Best book I've read in a while."

so I got this book on a 2 for 1 credit sale because it sounded sort of interesting but wasn't really expecting much. but when I started listening to it it was really good. All the characters are great and very interesting once you start to get to know them. my favorite character has to be Tucker. he is not only charming and clever but he literally had me laughing out loud at some of his retorts. he is a very very deep character and I loved seeing him unfold his layers throughout the book. would definitely read again.

"An enjoyable listen, but slow at first."

[no spoilers, promise] I almost deleted this after the first chapter, but glad I gave it a chance. The first chapter had me all jumbled because of so many character introductions, but after that, I got drawn into the story, went back to the beginning to clear things up, then thoroughly enjoyed the rest. The narrator butchered some of the accents, by drawing them out too long and making them sound like they were mentally disabled. But he also read the conversations very well, making me feel like I was within the story. It was fun trying to guess who the killer was, and even when I finally figured it out, I kept doubting until it was brought out at the end. I also liked the romance part of it too. The story ended too soon for me, even though at some points I was going nuts with all the extra details the author added, but I'm glad I listened to this.

Where does Carnal Innocence rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This was a fabulous book to listen to. I enjoyed the slow, southern drawls - and they were very effective

What was one of the most memorable moments of Carnal Innocence?

When she realized he wasn't the "bad boy" she assumed he was!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Definitely!

Narrator has pleasant voice but accents were like listening to Foghorn Leghorn. Intolerable.

    "Disappointing Old Nora Roberts Book"
    Any additional comments?

I love recent Nora Roberts books. This is an early Nora Roberts book written before she perfected her writing.

Would you consider the audio edition of Carnal Innocence to be better than the print version?

I didn't enjoy the accents in this book, I know it fitted in with where the book was set, but I did find it very annoying.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Carnal Innocence?

I didn't realise who had done it, I usually have a good idea by half way through a book, but this one threw me, very well written

Would you listen to another book narrated by Tom Stechschulte?

Depends whether it was his accent or one he was putting on for the book.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did finish this book in two days, as couldn't put it down

    "A terrific story"

I have read and listened to several Nora Roberts books and think that this is the best one yet. The Longstreet family were the big guns in the small town of Innocence, Mississippi. Dwayne, the eldest, sees life through the bottom of a bottle, his sister Josie, dissatisfied with her life, uses her promiscuity to pass the time whilst Tucker, the youngest son, is goodnatured but idle. The vicious killing of several young local women and the arrival in town of Caroline, a young concert violinist, fleeing from her dominating mother and an unhappy love affair, combine to make him sit up and start taking notice. There is horror, mystery, romance and quite a bit of humour in the tale that follows and a very big plus is the excellent narration by Tom Stechschulte.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would and I have, to several of my friends, because it was such a good read from start to finish (even though I actually listened to the audio version). I loved the characters and the tension that was present throughout the whole story. I went into smug mode at one point as I thought I knew who the murderer was but I was completely wrong....very good twist.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I had several so it is hard to say, they were all good....even the baddies!

Have you listened to any of Tom Stechschulte’s other performances? How does this one compare?

I have and I absolutely love him as a narrator, there are a good few out there that could take a lot of lessons from his performances. He gives every character their own personality with his differing voices and accents....brilliant performance by him, as always.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

If I could have, I would have....sadly, I also have a life and have to let that interfere every now and then!!

    Any additional comments?

I adore Nora Roberts writing and am forever grateful that she is such a prolific author as I never tire of reading her stories. I have read several of her trilogies and individual books and have enjoyed every one of them. The only thing that spoilt one for me was the narrator but I have noticed that she has never been used on any of the other of Nora Roberts audio versions so, I guess I wasn't the only one with that opinion. I have recommended Nora to all of my bookworm friends and relatives as there is bound to be a story for every one of them.

    "Really good"

As a fan of Nora Roberts I loved this book (almost a foregone conclusion though!). It has all her traits-excellent writing, interesting characters and a twist at the end that always keeps me guessing throughout the book. The narrator was a little slow for me to start with, but by the end I thought it was wonderful-a really slow, southern drawl...perfect!

A lovely Southern town is still nervous after two murders. New damaged girl arrives to inherit her aunt's house; she catches the eye of the local Lothario, but also, the local scary dude. More girls are murdered, is it the scary dude or someone else who is guilty?

    "Easy listening.."

I wanted something that was going to keep my attention without requiring too much effort / concentration and this book more than met the brief. Good storyline, excellent twist – I was sure I had identified the culprit at the beginning; but I was wrong and did not guess until it was revealed at the end.. a little romance, a touch of suspense and a mystery – what more can you ask for. What made this book complete was that by pure chance the movie was aired on sky as I was reading it – so finished the book and watched the movie.. brill
