Publisher's summary

"Sunday 1 January: 129 lbs. (but post-Christmas), alcohol units 14 (but effectively covers 2 days as 4 hours of party was on New Year’s Day), cigarettes 22, calories 5424."

From its beginning as a weekly column in a British newspaper, Bridget Jones’s Diary quickly became a best-seller in England. After gaining international popularity, it also shot to the top of the New York Times best-seller list. A 30-something single professional, Bridget Jones prefers a diary to a day planner for tracking her life. Each entry is an honest and hilarious step in her endless quest for self-improvement. ("New Year’s Resolution: Go to gym three times a week not merely to buy sandwich.") Caught between match-making relatives, other singles, and smug marrieds, Bridget records the triumphs and faux-pas of her life in this diary.

Funny, witty, and, at times, charmingly innocent, Bridget Jones’s Diary has a voice that is absolutely authentic. You’ve seen the Bridgets of the world trot by on their way to the office or gym. Now, through Barbara Rosenblat’s narration, you’ll spend some wonderful hours in the company of one. But be warned: from the very first line, you’ll be laughing out loud and looking for friends to introduce to this wonderful young woman.

Outstanding performance of a very fun story.

Barbara Rosenblat's performance captures BJ perfectly! Fun fun fun story.
This is an excellent, light-hearted adventure. As Bridget would say, "VG indeed"

Fun, Fun, Fun

If you could sum up Bridget Jones’s Diary in three words, what would they be?

Smart, funny, endearing

What did you like best about this story?

BrIdget is so very real. Having been a singleton myself, I can easily relate to her dating ups and downs.

What does Barbara Rosenblat bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Ms Rosenblat does a great Brit.

Who was the most memorable character of Bridget Jones’s Diary and why?

Bridget, of course! She has such inner poise. Mark Bloody Darcy is a great character too.

Any additional comments?

One of my all time faves. Sits high atop the Chick Lit genre. Nothing else comes close.

So dissapointed

What would have made Bridget Jones’s Diary better?

I love the movie; but this is not the movie. Bridget in the movie is quirky and lovable. Bridget in the book is self centered and awful!

Would you ever listen to anything by Helen Fielding again?

No

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Narrator was GREAT, the story was flawed

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

So disappointed - was hoping for a deeper look at the characters I fell in love with in the movie, but got completely different characters instead.

Any additional comments?

Would NOT recommend - go rent the movie instead. It's much better!

Finally...

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I've been waiting for this book to become available so I can stop borrowing it on (heaven forbid) cassette tape from my public library. It is one of the best long trip car books EVER!!

What about Barbara Rosenblat’s performance did you like?

The performance is the perfect balance for this book - just snarky enough without going overboard.

Love the Narrator, funny story too

Where does Bridget Jones’s Diary rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Top, but thats not saying much, its book 3 for me!

What about Barbara Rosenblat’s performance did you like?

Her voice flows so nicely and she sort of speaks differently for the different characters and emotions.

marvelously performed

Hadn't read this book in many years but was in the mood for a comedy -- it's still very funny, and this reader is absolutely terrific.

Watch the movie.

What would have made Bridget Jones???s Diary better?

Less whining, less recounting of her daily totals, like-able characters, and a plot.

What was most disappointing about Helen Fielding???s story?

It was SO boring and annoying.

What didn???t you like about Barbara Rosenblat???s performance?

To be fair, my reaction to the reader may very well be tainted because I found the book so boring. The reading seemed boring, too, but it may have more to do with the subject than with her. I just couldn't separate them.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Extreme boredom

Any additional comments?

I rarely say things like this, but skip the book and watch the movie instead. The movie skims over the two main focuses of the book: whining and giving daily statistics???number of calories consumed, weight, number of cigarettes smoked, number of alcohol units, number of lottery tickets purchased, number of lottery numbers correct, and on and on. At least if I'd been reading the book, I could have skipped over those parts. But listening to them over and over drove me crazy. She goes up a pound, and her world comes crashing down. All she does is whine, and seriously, how does she still have a job?!? I have no sympathy for any of the characters, especially Bridget. I was so bored, I just stopped listening before I was even halfway through it. I enjoyed the movie and was looking forward to listening to the book. What a disappointment!

Absolutely Not For Me

I bought this book because of the recommendations from other readers. Big mistake! This book was, boring and trivial...I found nothing interesting in her life and even less to relate to me. I realize I'm in the minority but not all books appeal to all persons. I finished listening to it partly because I paid good money for it and partly because I kept thinking it would have to get better...but it never wavered.

Hilarious

I read this book several years ago and remember it being very funny, so when I was in need of a good laugh I decided to give it a try again to see if it was as funny as I remembered.

It did not disappoint! Very good narration as well!

I recommend this book to all women for sure :)
