Publisher's summary

Nothing is easy about life above the Arctic Circle. Except, perhaps, falling in love.

Bryson Faulkner embraces the challenges that come with making a home in one of the most beautiful but unforgiving places on earth: the isolation of the endless wilderness, the harsh and unpredictable climate, and the predators that lurk about her remote cabin. And even the most perilous dangers of all - those that await her when she takes to the skies as one of Alaska's most daring bush pilots. The only thing missing is a special woman to share it all with, but she's resigned herself to the fact that few people can thrive in such an extreme environment.

Everything Karla Edwards thought she knew gets called into question when a series of events turns her comfortable and well-ordered life on its ear. Her partner leaves her, her mother dies, and Karla learns she has a sister in Alaska she never knew. She takes a leave of absence from her job as an ER nurse in Atlanta and heads to the far north, seeking answers and adventure. She finds all that and more when she crosses paths with a sexy bush pilot who opens her eyes to new possibilities. But can she open her heart as well and learn to trust again?

Author Narrated. SMH

Good story, sweet romance, terrible narrator. I liked the story, but the author is not a professional voice actor and nearly ruined the audiobook. If the narration had been better, this book would have gone into my "listen again" list.

My Hat's Off to Kim Baldwin

Over the past few years, it seems that every romance I read has left me disappointed and uninterested, until listening to this one. For the first time in ages, I was listening to a romance with characters that not only held my attention, but that I can picture so fully, it is hard to believe they are not people I know. From the first description of Bryson, her association with the wild elements around her, turned her into a romantic hero who drew me like a magnet, from the first chapter to the last. I won't rehash the story line, but it is well worth the price, and fascinates on so many levels, I cannot recommend it to you highly enough.

One thing I personally connected with and followed closely throughout the book was the serious health problem that loomed over the lives of some of the characters. As a person with a long standing health problem (try five decades), I followed this part of the story with great interest. When I married, everyone, from my husband to my in-laws, and everybody else, assumed I would be the first to go. Over the years, this came to truly irk me, and I became a tad fanatical about my diet, working out, and the like. I read this book as a widow of some years, and I am not gloating, as I am far from over the loneliness, but I have to say so much for assumptions regarding such things, and so much for allowing them power over your whole life, which I did for far too long. Genetics are one thing, but there is also will and the human spirit, or maybe it is more like the old Ofra Haza song, "Mystery, Faith and Love." I truly appreciate the heroic dimensions of the Bryson character, in both how she lives her life, and how she lives her love, I found the romance completely satisfying, and the book wonderfully upbeat. I have already downloaded another, and I am fully planning to click each of Kim Baldwin's titles off my wish list, one by one.

Stunning romance

I adore this audiobook. The romance had a gorgeous story. The two main characters were well written and beautifully depicted. And the narration was perfect. Baldwin did an awesome job in all regards

great book!

It was very realistic! I lived in Alaska for 3 years and I appreciate the authenticity that was conveyed in the book. The single isolated, but community feel of the Alaskans came through . The difficulty of dating up there is so different from the lower 48 is really portrayed correctly. Great job!!

good, but not great

I have enjoyed a handful of Kim Baldwin's audiobooks. the characters have always been easy to like, but for whatever reason I didn't care THAT much for these characters. the book was just "good" for me. if this was my first Kim Baldwin book, I wouldn't be too eager to find another book of hers. she has some other great books on audible. good, just not as good as her other books.

All around amazing

I don't generally enjoy novels narrated by the author. Kim is definitely an exception. She wrote and narrated an incredible story. I liked everything about novel. It is one of the most scene descriptive novels I have experienced in a while. I felt like I was seeing Alaska in a snowstorm. The characters and the story were also engrossing. I am going to read more of Kim's work.

great story, marginal narration

Really a great story but I have found authors shouldn't narrate their own books. There was very little emotion conveyed and I found it hard to picture the characters. Narration was too monotone...too robotic. It hugely took away from what could have been an A+ book with the right narrator.

Flying Alaska Skies

Bryson Faulkner loves live in a remote town in Alaska where she built her own cabin and is one of several bush pilots. She would welcome the chance to share it with a woman but knows the opportunity isn’t there.
Karla Edwards, an ER nurse in Atlanta, has lost her partner and her mother died after a long battle with Dementia. In a letter to Karla, he mother revealed a daughter she had at sixteen. She lives in Alaska and Karla takes a sabbatical to find her and her husband in the bush.
Two women who immediately clashed move to make a friendship. A story of life in the wild, survival, family and friends. Wonderful story development and depiction of Alaska. I enjoyed the author narration. Recommend.
