Publisher's summary

Sir George Pyke is quite disappointed in his son Roderick's business acumen. Roderick, unlike his old man, lacks the aggressive drive required of a business tycoon. So the elder Pyke resolves to marry him off to the sprightly Felicia, who has enough spark to manage any man and may just do him a world of good. All is going well until Bill West arrives from New York. Felicia recognizes in this strong, ambitious chap the man for whom she should forsake all others - but making their way to the altar may be easier said than done.

This romantic comedy from master humorist P. G. Wodehouse is sure to delight, whether you're new to his work or a longtime fan.

Finally, A P.G. Wodehouse we hadn't heard before!

Highly entertaining, classic Wodehouse fun with action split between New York and London. Competent narration. Highly recommend for Wodehouse fans.

A fun listen

In traditional Wodhouse fashion this is just a fun listen. The characters are rich in attributes and a joy to follow. I highly recommend.

Wodehouse is always a good read

Narrator was very good, story, while a variation on a standard Wodehouse theme was good. A bright cheery escape from the troubles of our daily lives.

Very, very silly, as expected - but fun!

Where does Bill the Conqueror rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I listen to books like this at night to help me go to sleep so I can't really compare it to books I listen to seriously.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Bill!

Which character – as performed by Simon Vance – was your favorite?

Simon Vance does a great job on all the characters. His talent enhanced the listening experience!

If you could take any character from Bill the Conqueror out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Oh, please! These people are not real. All the characters are rather ridiculous. I cannot even imagine myself in their world.

Fine Book, Strange Narration

I always enjoy a good Wodehouse book, and this did not disappoint. I'm not sure how the narrator was able to make some of the American characters sound just like Doc Brown in the Back to the Future films. Quite impressive, though distracting. The other Americans sounded like British actors in the West End who are portraying Americans.

familiar but entertaining

much like his other non-Jeeves novels. the setup is the same: nice guy thinks he's in love with an overbearing domineering woman. but comes to learn true love when he meets another wonderful woman.

you will recognize the framework but the details are much different. the wordsmithing and humor is excellent as always. that's what I read Wodehouse for.

A Joy

I still enjoy a good Wodehouse story even though there are some not so PC words, ideas and characters. Vance is excellent also.

Mediocre Narrator

While Simon Vance is typically an excellent narrator, his cool delivery is not a good match with Wodehouse. Martin Jarvis and Jonathan Cecil know how to savor each word, bringing the joy of Wodehouse’s writing to life. This narrator fails to do so. Not terrible, but not particularly engaging.
