Publisher's Summary

Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, the tiny town of Big Stone Gap is home to some of the most charming eccentrics in the state. Ave Maria Mulligan is the town's self-proclaimed spinster, a thirty-five year old pharmacist with a "mountain girl's body and a flat behind." She lives an amiable life with good friends and lots of hobbies until the fateful day in 1978 when she suddenly discovers that she's not who she always thought she was. Before she can blink, Ave's fielding marriage proposals, fighting off greedy family members, organizing a celebration for visiting celebrities, and planning the trip of a lifetime - a trip that could change her view of the world and her own place in it forever. Brimming with humor and wise notions of small-town life, Big Stone Gap is a gem of a book with a giant heart....

    "Fallen for Big Stone Gap"

If I could give this book more than 5 stars I would. The authors performance was incredible! Her voice and the theatrics really painted vivid imagery that made me feel like I was in Big Stone Gap in the late 70s. I was there and I fell in love with Ava Maria. I can't wait to read the rest of the series. *spoiler alert* at the end of this book Adriana Trigiani does a 10 min interview and there's a little bit given away about the rest of the books in the trilogy. I'm hoping it wasn't too big of a spoil but I couldn't stop listening to her talk so I had to hear it. Great listen!

    "The characters are wonderful!"

This is my first time reading/hearing any of Ms Trigiani's books. I enjoyed it a lot, but really had trouble getting into her narration at the beginning. It had a strident twang and moved too slowly. Either I got used to it or she picked up the pace a little as the book moved along.

    Yes

What did you like best about this story?

    The love story.

When she was waiting on the porch and he got home.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Pretty much

    Any additional comments?

Why would you add an interview at the end of this book that reveals the twists of the next? That was such a bummer.

"Fabulous! But don't listen to the author talk at the end!"

I loved this book and was so looking forward to listening to all 3. I'm disappointed that the author talked about the next two books and told me what was going to happen. Of course, I'm still going to listen, but I'm now unsure of listening to the second story.

    "Great reader Slow but entertaining"
Where does Big Stone Gap rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It is one of the better ones. The story takes place in the blue ridge mountains, the reader talks in 1st person and tells her story with a twang. It isn't a book you can't stop listening to but you definitely want to go back to carry on the story.

What did you like best about this story?

How the main figures outlook changes and develops over time.

What about Adriana Trigiani’s performance did you like?

She stayed in character pretty well.

"This book had me fall in love with love all over"

This book had me fall in love with love all over again! I had a hard time getting past the author's voice, but the story captured my attention. I have to admit I caught myself staying in my car, long after I got home, just to listen to this story in silence. Can't wait to read the next 2 books in the series!!

"A true depiction of the beautiful, rich life and people of Southwestern Virginia!"

Adrianna Trigiani absolutely nails the essence of the simple, yet beautiful life of people in Southwestern Virginia! For those of us who grew up in the Appalachian region, moved away and have come home-literally or in our hearts- the rich heritage, humor and blessing of our roots rings true. The characters are relatable and endearing. I read the Big Stone Gap trilogy years ago, and have enjoyed it even more now.

    Story
"From Small Town East TN - this was a MUST READ!"
Would you listen to Big Stone Gap again? Why?

Yes, Yes and YES!!!! I adored this book. I loved that Adriana was narrating, being from a small town a few hours south of Big Stone Gap I could totally relate and hear some familiar "talk" and actions that made me laugh out loud!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Big Stone Gap?

So many moments, I simply loved the entire book, I can't pick just one moment.

What about Adriana Trigiani’s performance did you like?

I absolutely adored her way of mimicking the "mountain talk" ... people getting "murried" AKA Married , loved her way of distinguishing each character in the book.

If you could take any character from Big Stone Gap out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Oh it would have to be Iva Lou she is just the type of friend I would have. You could be caught up on all the town gossip in a few minutes around Iva Lou.

    Any additional comments?

This will be a book that I will listen to many times! Listen now!
