Publisher's summary

A new master of terror reigns supreme, and in his most horrifying novel yet, the clash between good and evil explodes in an apocalyptic showdown few will survive.

From a funfest to a bloodfest….

Each year, the residents of Pine Deep host the Halloween Festival, drawing tourists and celebrities from across the country to enjoy the deliciously creepy fun. Those who visit the small Pennsylvania town are out for a good time, but those who live there are desperately trying to survive.

For a monstrous evil lives among them, a savage presence whose malicious power has grown too powerful even for death to hold it back. Only a handful of brave souls stand against the King of the Dead and a red wave of destruction. Daylight is fading, and a bad moon is rising over Pine Deep. Keep watching the shadows.

Jonathan Maberry is the multiple Bram Stoker Award–winning author of Ghost Road Blues, the first of a trilogy of thrillers with a supernatural bite. A professional writer and writing teacher, he has sold more than one thousand articles, seventeen nonfiction books, six novels, and two plays.

Keep chilled: listen to more in the Pine Deep trilogy.

One of the most action packed horror ending ever!!

This book in the series will take you deep into horror. If you thought the first two books were scary or filled with monsters - this one will send you over the edge of madness. The level of violence and suffering is not for the faint of heart. Proceed with this book but be warned. The monsters that we are introduced to are not your typical monsters. I love the way Jonathan Mayberry gives them a new life (no pun intended - well maybe it was). I couldn't put this book down. The narration by Tom Weiner is one of the best I have ever heard. A male narrator doing multiple women voices well is not easy but Mr. Weiner does this so well and seamlessly - I am amazed. One of my best purchases on Audible.

Excellent Trilogy

Loved it! There should be a 4th book and if there is, could someone tell me the title of the book.

Epic conclusion

The massively epic conclusion to the Pine Deep trilogy. Now that I am all caught up with Joe Ledger, I finally got around to reading this one. (My receipt says I purchased my copy in March 2020 so it's been on my shelf patiently waiting on me for over a year.) This is one of those, why did I wait so long stories. This series has everything. Ghosts, vampires, zombie-like vampires called Dead Heads, Benansanti (the good werewolfs) Dhampyrs and an evil werewolf reborn as a vampire. That is a lot to keep up with and it was fun. I also liked Jonathan Maberry's author's note at the end where he talks a little bit about how his grandmother got him hooked on all the old world folklore. My only complaint is that the series is over.

love it

I've been a fan of Jonathan Maberry ever since I found the Joe Ledger series. I highly recommend giving that one a go as well. and if you have the desire to stick with that series, you will find a pine deep crossover...

overall great series

so I was wary to listen to a Maberry book that wasn't narrated by Ray Porter but this guy did great. dont let that hold you back like it did me for so long.

the story was great, a little slow to start and they throw LOTS of characters at you in the beginning but overall it was a great series. perfect length, great narrator and if you're interested in the Joe Ledger series, its cool to get the original Pine Deep story figured out for when the DMS has a lil crossover.

Very surprised!

I usually don’t pick any book about vamps because I lost my taste for that kind of supernatural Being ever since the silly romantic unrealistic sparkly vamps of recent movies.
This author though hits the nail on the head of the question “what if”. This is a different yet seemingly more accurate account of how folklore depicts vamps as they are, remorseless serial killers. The author also gets right the different reactions of the common people. Some people lay down to die, others hide and a few fight back at great risk to their mortal being. I appreciate a good story where myth and folklore are mixed evenly with realistic possibilities.
This has sparked an interest in me to find out more about different folklore about the supernatural from around the world.

Well-rounded

Very diverse components of action, intrigue, and horror. lots of different flavors well blended. plenty of things that would have seemed not to fit together, and plenty of things that would have been cliche in most stories are somehow worked together here in a way that feels right.

Maberry continues to impress this long standing Stephen King fan, I look forward to chewing my way through many more of his novels.
