    "Great story, poor narration"
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

It was, but the voice of the narrator was grating.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes. The writer had a lot of backstory completion to accomplish.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

His voice was muffled, low, and gravelly.

Do you think Back to War needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Yes. Many variations can be made on the premise that this book presents.

    "Great Series"

Very low deep monotone narration . Books great but needs different narrator. This is the first of a great series. My second runner up author to Vince Flynn.

    "Terrible narrator ruined the book!"

How did this guy even get a job as a narrator? Even then, surely the sound engineer could have done something. It is excrutiatingly difficult to make out what is being read and the sheer effort required ruins the enjoyment.

I'm asking for a refund for this and the second book (which is also narrated by the same guy) and will read the Kindle instead. The rest of the series, narrated by others, are fine.

    "Comic Book x Bond Cross"

This novel feels and 'reads' like a setup for a series. Lots of background information that is presented like resumes rather than dribbled out over chapters or novels (aka lacks creativity) . We are supposed to be impressed with the talented characters - they are all above average intelligence and physical capabilities. We have a billionaire, nice guy, down to earth, talented, smart and tough with the help of his company taking on bad guys. Lots of wizbang toys (think Bond). This book is fantasy like comic book heroes (think Bruce Wayne) . This is not a sophisticated story nor is the writing. Plot is simple. Women are pretty much absent from his story (only dead fiance and lawyer). Disturbing is the proud reference that thee are no women except one employed at the firm. This should not be a badge of honor but is disgraceful, a handicap to the firm and story. This was published in 2012 for gosh sakes, if the author didn't want to write about them fine but to brag that they are absent from SSI employee roles is disturbing - seems neanderthal. Other current top authors are dealing with the new reality of women in security and combat roles in mature ways (Jack Coughlin, Dalton Fury, Brad Taylor, Vince Flynn, David Baldacci to name a few). The narrator Daniel Dorse is simply the wrong voice for this novel and maybe all audio books. His voice is too deep making it difficult to hear. I played with the base and treble and all the other options on my car system to try to hear him better to no avail. In the end I used ear buds. Dorse's ability to do different voices and accents isn't very good either. The combination of deep voice and not many voices makes listening a challenge. I am reluctant to try the next book in the series.

    "Who found this narrator?"

No idea if the story is even worth listening to. The narrator is comically horrible. This is the first time I have ever felt like this. I can't listen. Try again with a new narrator as my neighbor says these are the best books in ages. Just can't take the narration.

    "Ok, but not great"
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Not really. It was OK, but there are so many great books out there, so I would rather spend my time listening to higher rated books than this one.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

You get a good introduction to the various characters . good guys and bad guys. All in all, the story is ok, but there are a few things I am less happy about. Like - the good guys are elite in their respective areas, and most of them use top secret experimental new gadgets. These guys also have impeccable moral, and unlimited resources. All in all too good to be true, so it becomes a little unrealistic.Like Mission Impossible, The main bad guy hangs out with a bunch of loosers, but as things get tight, he turns out to be a hyper intelligent criminal mastermind.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

First of all, he reads too slow. Apart from that, he has a low, hoarse and monotone voice, as if he tries to sound cool. He doesn't. I think he ruins the book, so I hope they change narrator for rest of the series (not sure if it really is a series, but is built like one).

Was Back to War worth the listening time?

Personally I dont think so. This is not a book I will recommend to my friends.

    Any additional comments?

A very masculine set of characters.

"It is very hard to listen to the narrator."

I couldn't finish the book because narrator had no inflection or emotion in his voice.

    "Good story, difficult narration."

The story is great, and you immediately gain a love and respect for the good guy characters. I almost stopped listening early on because the narrator was difficult to listen to. He sounds like Clint Eastwood doing a bad Batman voice. I'm glad I finished, but I hope the next in the series has a different narrator.
